During running, we witness many things happening and experience a lot ourselves. Among these, there are certainly unavoidable embarrassing moments. Today, let's take a look at the most common embarrassing situations runners encounter while running! See if any of the following situations have happened to you.
Runny nose while running
Some runners say they often have a runny nose while running. If you don't have a tissue, wiping it on your clothes isn't ideal, and sniffing it back feels awkward. Actually, a runny nose while running is mainly due to the nasal cavity being stimulated by cold wind, which is a normal physiological reaction.
In cold weather, the low temperature and breathing through the mouth combined with sweating can cause chills. Chills cause the body's pores to close, preventing the normal release of water vapor through the pores, which then accumulates in the respiratory tract and condenses into liquid, forming a runny nose.
Tripping while running
You might have tripped in wet or icy places, or stumbled over an unnoticed obstacle on the road. Besides weather conditions and obstacles, most of the time, you trip over your own feet.
Treadmills are also a major cause of falls for runners! Let's look at some personal experiences from fellow runners:
Runner A: I tripped while trying to avoid someone in front of me, fearing a collision. I stepped sideways and tripped on the uneven road, falling hard. I felt extremely embarrassed and quickly got up and ran away. After a few steps, I tripped again, fell hard, but stood up, pretending nothing happened, and walked leisurely past the crowd.
Runner B: I tripped on my earphone cord on the treadmill, the earphones got pulled out, and my phone fell to the ground, playing my exam vocabulary. In a panic, I forgot to turn off the treadmill and fell directly onto it while trying to pick up my phone.
Runner C: I was happily running on the gym treadmill when I noticed my shoelace was untied. I almost fell, and instantly found myself sprawled on the treadmill!
Blocked by a vicious dog while running
Street running inevitably involves navigating various scenarios. Besides avoiding pedestrians and vehicles, enthusiastic dogs can make any runner feel pressured. Imagine running, flushed and out of breath, and suddenly seeing a dog charging at you. It's hard to stay calm.
Runner A: The most embarrassing thing while running has to be being chased by a dog! Once, I was chased by a dog while running, and a crowd of strangers cheered and clapped for me. You can imagine the scene, right?
Runner B: I always encounter the same lady walking her dog at the same time and place. When the dog sees me running, it circles around and gets ready to attack. My personal feud with this dog has been going on for a long time.
Caught staring at attractive people
During running, you often see people with great physiques, sometimes even in swimwear. For many male runners, it's almost instinctive to 'sneak a peek' at such beauties. Similarly, female runners might react the same way when they see muscular, cool-looking guys.
On the track, a lot of 'sneaking a peek' happens unconsciously, especially in crowded races. Beautiful girls, sexy backs, and flashy gear attract more attention. However, out of courtesy, such appreciative glances shouldn't last too long.If you stare for too long, you might get caught.
Being overtaken by elderly people
Running slowly isn't scary, but being overtaken by elderly people during training or a race is quite a blow. However, don't underestimate elderly runners with years of experience; you might not be able to keep up with them.
Being lapped by others
Being lapped while running is common. Less capable runners often get lapped by stronger ones. You might see someone ahead of you, only to have them suddenly pass you from behind, realizing you've been lapped. This often happens on tracks due to speed differences and is usually unavoidable.
Urinating in public during a race
Have many runners experienced the urgent need to use the bathroom while running? The more you think about it, the more urgent it gets...Especially during marathons, you might need a bathroom but can't find one.
The 'lack of restrooms' issue in marathons has always been a major complaint among runners. Many runners choose to find a secluded spot to relieve themselves, but public urination isn't justan embarrassing issuebut also a matter of personal conduct. Despite improved event organization, some runners still urinate in public even near restrooms.
Stomach discomfort while running
Many people have experienced stomach pain while running. Common sense suggests this is due to eating too much before running, but sometimes it seems unrelated to how much or when you ate.Running increases gastrointestinal motility and aids digestion, but if you experience stomach discomfort while running, it can be troublesome.
Let's hear about a memorable experience from a fellow runner:
Runner: One morning, I woke up, quickly washed up, grabbed my keys, put on my running shoes, and started my usual workout. Feeling good, I decided to change my route for a different experience. I ran about 5 kilometers along the riverbank, enjoying the ducks swimming and the reeds swaying. Suddenly, my stomach churned and gurgled. Oh no! Nature calls at the worst time!
Looking around, I saw only occasional motorcycles, ducks, and reeds—no restrooms in sight! The more I couldn't find one, the more urgent it got. In this desolate place, there wasn't even a house in sight! I had to rely on myself. I ran as fast as I could, enduring the stomach pain, just wanting to avoid embarrassment. Finally, I dashed home just in time, avoiding a disaster. That embarrassing moment is unforgettable!
Constant farting while running
One of the most embarrassing issues during exercise is farting. Sometimes it's mild, just brief gas, and you can sneak a few without anyone noticing. But if it's loud, it might startle those around you.
Generally, farting caused by changes in abdominal pressure and increased gastrointestinal motility during running is normal. However, to avoid it, try not to eat gas-inducing foods like taro, soda, and beans before running, and avoid eating too quickly or too much.
