hk marathon liu xiao er eats and drinks runs through asia's most grueling course
Starting from the trip in December, I set off from Shenzhen and ate my way to Mudanjiang, from Mudanjiang to Ningxia, then to Xi'an, and finally to Hong Kong. You might ask why I can eat so much; it's because the food is too tempting. Unable to resist the delicious food, that's also why I managed to finish the Hong Kong Marathon. The constant supply of food and drinks along the way kept me going.
They say the Hong Kong Marathon course is"Asia's most challenging course", and my friends said it's a crazy course and they would never go again, as they couldn't even walk after finishing it. Such a tough course, I definitely had to run it once.
Crossing the border from Shenzhen is the most convenient route to Hong Kong. Exchange some Hong Kong dollars, recharge your Octopus card, buy mobile data, and bring your running gear to set off for Hong Kong. For those who haven't been to Hong Kong yet, I recommend an app: Mobile Worry-Free Travel. If you're a China Mobile user, this app is very useful. It handles data, calls, translation, exchange rates, navigation, tickets, flights, and hotels all in one.
In Hong Kong, if you can speak Cantonese, that's the best. If you're not fluent in Cantonese, I recommend downloading the app: Cantonese U Academy, to learn Cantonese from scratch. (I'm definitely not promoting the app, just find it very useful, so I'm recommending it.) Although I live in Shenzhen, everyone speaks Mandarin there, but in Hong Kong, Cantonese is very useful. My friends and I went to eat cart noodles, greeted the shop owner in Mandarin, and he looked confused. Luckily, my friend is good at Cantonese and quickly switched languages, so we could order our food. When we left the shop, the waiter kindly said in Cantonese, "Welcome to come again, thank you for your patronage."
If your English is great, you definitely won't get lost or have any communication barriers when shopping.
Accommodation in Hong Kong can be very expensive, as land is precious. I suggest staying in hostels, similar to homestays on the mainland, with bunk beds, relatively clean, and four-person rooms. However, if a girl is booking a hostel alone, make sure to check if it's a female-only room or mixed-gender.
If you want to buy cosmetics in Hong Kong, I suggest going to specialty stores. The streets of Hong Kong are filled with cosmetics stores, more than I've ever seen anywhere else. It's like a cosmetics haven. The first time I saw girls buying face masks with suitcases, I was so shocked I didn't know what to do. Later, when I came to Hong Kong to buy face masks and lipsticks, I also used a suitcase because Hong Kong is a shopping paradise, a girl's favorite.
In Hong Kong, you must visit the Avenue of Stars, touch Aaron Kwok's handprint for good luck, and maybe you'll have good fortune in the new year. Enjoy the sea breeze, the night view, and the precious land of Hong Kong. On the Avenue of Stars, I found my favorites, Maggie Cheung and Brigitte Lin, and placed my hands in their handprints, reminiscing those classics.
At Victoria Harbour, watching the passersby speaking different languages with their families, lovers, and children, all looking very happy. Listening to singers playing guitars and singing, I naturally stopped to enjoy the beautiful music. Tourists on the boats were happily taking selfies, and I captured the scene of the boat splashing water with my phone from the shore.
The Hong Kong Marathon starts in waves, and I was in Marathon Group 1, starting at 06:35. As a mediocre runner, I should run a tough marathon to understand the importance of training core strength, so I don't slack off.
The registration fee for the Hong Kong Marathon is also very high, but every year there are zodiac medals, and many people sign up every year to collect all twelve zodiac signs. The zodiac for 2019 is the pig, which is very meaningful to me as it's my zodiac year, and I completed the Hong Kong Marathon, fulfilling my New Year's wish. Will I run the Hong Kong Marathon again? I say no, once is enough, it's all about the experience.
Those who have participated in the Hong Kong Marathon have experienced the course, which goes up and down three times, crossing bridges and tunnels, truly "one wave after another." The sloping course feels okay at the start, but after running for a long time, your feet start to feel uncomfortable. After all, it has the title of "Asia's most challenging course," and it lives up to its name.
Just after the New Year, with all the eating and drinking, my weight kept increasing, and I was worried about how to finish the Hong Kong Marathon. Actually, during the race, there's no need to worry too much. The Hong Kong Marathon has plenty of supply stations, so when you can't run anymore, just go to a supply station, eat and drink, and you'll finish the race. This is the concept of "if you can't run, just walk." Since I was wearing a Chinese University of Hong Kong shirt, I greeted the CUHK cheerleaders along the way, and even though I wanted to stop and walk, I kept running and finished the race.
The Hong Kong Marathon is a serious marathon, with everyone cheering for their best selves, silently completing the 42.195 kilometers. I was one of the over seventy thousand participants, feeling the seriousness and persistence, cheering myself on all the way. I wondered if I would meet any Hong Kong celebrities, but since I'm not a fan, I wouldn't recognize them. For example, Eason's wife, known in the industry as "Kenya Xu," didn't participate in the marathon that day. I found out from her Weibo that she and Eason went skiing, a very loving couple. However, seeing her poster on the course was satisfying enough.
What to do after finishing the Hong Kong Marathon? Of course, have a good sleep. After the sleep deprivation during the New Year, I needed a good rest before eating again.
If there's a chance, see you at the next marathon, and remember to pat my shoulder when we meet.
