2020 [Super New Year]

Give yourself a new starting point~ Taipei's New Year Goods Street is now open

As the Lunar New Year approaches, Taiwan's largest New Year Goods Street, Dihua Street, is bustling with activity.

Dihua Street, famous throughout Taiwan for its New Year goods, actually refers to the section south of Taipei Bridge. Spatially, Dihua Street is part of Dadaocheng.

The earliest shops on Dihua Street appeared in the sixth year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1851). Two years later, people from Quanzhou Tong'an in the Bangka area began building shops on Dihua Street, forming the 'Middle Street'.

By the early 20th century, it was mainly known for its groceries and tea shops. Later, rice, fabrics, and traditional Chinese medicine also gradually found their place.

With the passage of time, the streetscape and the appearance of buildings have greatly changed, evolving from simple Minnan-style shops to ornate Baroque architecture, leading to today's look.

Today, let's take a stroll through Dihua Street with Codoon friends and feel the atmosphere of the Taiwanese New Year.

In 2020, Taipei's New Year Goods Street features great shopping, delicious food, and good fortune; with three main fortune-bringing lanterns: 'Emperor Shennong,' 'Martial God of Wealth,' and 'Old Man Under the Moon'.

Even though it's not a holiday, a considerable crowd has gathered to buy the necessary New Year goods.

The shopkeepers have sent out quality tasting teams, offering samples to attract customers.

Abalone, mullet roe, and cured meats are essential reunion dishes for every household.

There are all kinds of New Year gift sets, candies, maltose, and dried snacks available.

Of course, decorations that enhance the festive atmosphere and bring joy are also indispensable.

When visiting the Dihua business district, you must not miss the famous Xia-Hai City God Temple. Go there to burn incense and pray for a safe, smooth, healthy, and prosperous year ahead.

Along the way, we encountered foreign professional basketball players who also came to Dihua to experience the atmosphere of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

If you get tired from walking around, you can take a short break in the free public spaces.

You can also rest in unique cafes and drink shops converted from magnificent historical buildings.

In Taipei City, we trace history in Dadaocheng, walk through Dihua Street with its groceries, see old houses, listen to stories, and enjoy food and drinks. After eating and drinking, we need to digest, so we head to Dadaocheng Wharf.

Dadaocheng Wharf: Long-distance LSD training, taking you wandering to Tamsui~

Starting from Dadaocheng Wharf, it's 18 kilometers to Shezi Island and back.

For those who don't want to return the same way, you can consider running all the way to Tamsui and then taking the MRT back, a total of 30 kilometers.

Dadaocheng Wharf has recently become a popular running check-in spot with its container market and various food trucks.

It's recommended to arrange a run along the Dadaocheng waterfront in the evening. After training, you can enjoy delicious food and beer. The bustling market, under the brilliant lighting effects, is warm, comfortable, and very pleasant~

Finally, we wish Codoon friends a new year where you can surpass your past self, have new hopes, and seriously enjoy a [Super New Year].
