marathon doesn't believe in tears the world beyond 30 kilometers

This content was originally intended to be written in my first marathon race report. However, I feel it is necessary to separately, seriously, and earnestly record my feelings at this moment.

I have run several half marathons, and at the time, I found them a bit challenging. However, compared to my first full marathon, I suddenly feel that those were completed quite smoothly.

A half marathon is not a marathon; I always thought it was just a joke. But upon reflection, it seems true. A half marathon is, after all, only half of a marathon. Just half, it can't be considered a marathon. And having run it myself, I feel that 21 kilometers, if relying on so-called willpower, is still somewhat manageable. Gritting your teeth, you can get through it quickly. 21.0975 kilometers is not unimaginable.

A full marathon, 42.195 kilometers. Previously, I had only seen this number on race maps. It was only after I ran it myself that I understood what this number means.

The world after 30 kilometers, why is it so tearless yet heart-wrenching? My half marathon performance isn't bad. So when I passed 30 kilometers with a time of 2:41, I still felt very relaxed. At that time, I thought the script would continue like this. After all, even professional athletes' daily training only goes up to 30 kilometers. But after continuing for another 2 kilometers, my legs seemed to show signs of cramping. So naturally, I started to walk and run intermittently. The further I went, the more I walked. After 35 kilometers, I was almost entirely walking to the finish line, helpless and tearless.

The world after 30 kilometers, why is it so overwhelming? I wanted to cry but couldn't. Watching myself, I knew I couldn't go on. Even though I took an energy gel at 30 kilometers and saved another for 35 kilometers, it had no effect. I could only watch my body rapidly deplete. There was no room for rescue, only allowing this overwhelming fatigue to occupy my muddled mind and nearly disintegrating body.

The world after 30 kilometers, why is it so muddled? Compared to the rapid decline in physical condition, my mental state also quickly dulled. Before 30 kilometers, my mind was constantly calculating the pace, like the latest generation 8-core processor. When I started walking, I calculated many times how to finish within 4 hours. Either the time didn't add up, or the distance was miscalculated. In short, sometimes right, sometimes wrong. The inertia generated by the body directly fed back to the brain, making the brain system regress to the ancient 386 era.

The world after 30 kilometers, why is it so ruthless? With my brain not functioning well, there was no time to manage the whole body. Occasionally, when I realized I needed to sprint a few more steps, my heart was willing, but my strength was insufficient. The brain's commands had to pass through various body departments, facing obstacles. The whole body was disorganized and undisciplined, unable to convey central directives.

The world after 30 kilometers, why is it so excruciating? The various parts of my body didn't obey commands, collapsing into disarray. Trying to organize an effective attack was a fool's dream. So why not surrender? It was because the central brain still had a bit of conscience and bottom line. Having come this far, I would crawl to the finish line if I had to. At least I wasn't required to run, so I could still inch towards the finish line. Running a marathon turned into walking a marathon, excruciating.

The world after 30 kilometers, why is it so life-and-death? To be reborn after being placed in a deadly situation is a transformative smile. Without running a marathon, one cannot experience this state of being completely drained and on the brink of collapse. People may be heartbroken over emotional issues, but the body rarely feels such an intoxicating and dreamlike sensation. If you want to experience this feeling of completely emptying yourself and pushing yourself to the brink, then run a marathon.

Thank you, marathon, for letting me experience a different world. As my running level improves in the future, it will be hard to have this first-time experience of life and death again. This painful pleasure is something regrettable if not experienced once in a lifetime. A marathon is not a game for warriors but a feast that every ordinary person pursuing self-improvement can taste. As long as you step onto the full marathon track, it is a grand feast, a full banquet.

Sour, sweet, bitter, and spicy, each flavor has its unique charm. This is what makes every complete 42.195 kilometers.
