journey north the story of qinlin's north marathon race and trip

It's been over a week since the Beijing Marathon, and only now do I write this. This is because we created the most time-consuming race record: video + text, making it an eternal memory.

When we grow old and our memories fade, we can revisit these videos and articles to relive our crazy marathon days and see the people we met through running.

Pre-race walking spree before the Beijing Marathon

We reserved two days for walking before the Beijing Marathon, clocking over 40,000 steps each day: we ate Qingfeng buns, hot pot lamb, Beijing roast duck, watched the flag-raising ceremony, climbed the Great Wall, and toured the Forbidden City. Everything felt like a pre-written program, yet filled with constant surprises.

We toured the Forbidden City with Alan from the Sweat Flow Running Club. When asked how to run the Beijing Marathon, Alan, like many experts, threw a big smokescreen before the race, saying: 'Just running for fun, haven't trained much lately!' His final time? 3:22:54.

Despite the smokescreen, we sincerely congratulated him on his great performance. As he said: 'There are many experts in the Beijing Marathon, just like in life where many people are better than you. But there are also many who admire you. Maintaining a good attitude is most important. Keep going, Alan, life is long.'

'He who has not climbed the Great Wall is not a true man.' On Friday, we climbed several sections of the Badaling Great Wall. The magnificent Badaling, the Great Wall that never falls, we can now call ourselves true men.

'Awaken the Running Instinct'

On September 15th at 3:00 PM, we went to Olympic Forest Park to shoot the 'Awaken the Running Instinct' video, aiming to awaken the running instinct. Several familiar faces from Codoon would participate, and we were quite excited. Before shooting, we took a walk around the Olympic Sports Center. Tomorrow it will be crowded, and we won't be able to achieve the same effect, haha!

Due to delays, Codoon's Xijia and his son, the Kenyan fairy Tina, and we were all shooting at the same time. Before shooting, a beautiful lady did makeup for Qin, which Lin described as 'applying putty and doing renovations.'

The makeup artist also did makeup for the Kenyan fairy Tina, making her even more beautiful!

Before shooting, we took a photo with Xijia and his son. Lin said, 'Meeting a running buddy and not taking a photo is just being silly.' It turned out to be right because later, when everyone was shooting until the evening, we couldn't take such beautiful photos anymore.

Codoon's talented runner and artist Xijia is someone we truly admire. She's beautiful, fit, can run, paint, and write. She's the perfect woman, and although this was only our second meeting, it felt like seeing a dear sister.

Let me introduce Xijia's father, Mr. Wang. We didn't know how to address him when we met. He looks so young and handsome, not like someone with such an adult daughter. Lin said, 'Exercise is truly a magical treasure; it keeps Mr. Wang looking young. We may not reach his level, but we should strive to be like him!' After the race, Xijia posted Mr. Wang's time: 3:02:29!!!!

Lin took Mr. Wang's photo and race time to show his colleagues, urging the middle-aged men at the company to start running and learn from Mr. Wang's spirit. Mr. Wang gained many fans, and surely some will be tempted to jump into the 'pit' of running! Below is Mr. Wang's race certificate, and I suddenly regret not getting his autograph that day!

During the video shoot, we finally met the Kenyan fairy Tina. Tina is a friend of Codoon, and we had never met before. Because of Codoon, the Beijing Marathon, and this shoot, we finally met.

Running has introduced us to many like-minded, positive friends, which is one of the reasons we keep running!

After shooting the video with Tina, it was already past 8 PM. Tina truly lives up to her name, a real fairy. She's beautiful, kind, humorous, and eloquent, like a fairy descending to earth. Even more coincidentally, on our way back, we found out Tina was staying at the same hotel as us! We promised to treat her to hotpot when she comes to Chengdu, the kind that's so spicy it makes you dizzy!!! Coincidences are truly magical!!! Another coincidence was running into the Chengdu running circle goddess Yuan Baobao on the subway. Out of millions, we met by chance in a different city. Only a photo could express our excitement! So, under the watchful eyes of the entire carriage, we took this group photo!

The video shoot lasted all day, and everyone loved the final product. The dedication of the staff touched every runner who participated. Thank you again to these lovely and dedicated staff members.

Collecting the Beijing Marathon race pack

Collecting the Beijing Marathon race pack was smooth and seamless.

The entrance clearly indicated the process. See the picture below for details!

The race number and other items were packed in a custom transparent file bag, which was very thoughtful. The bag had sponsor logos, maximizing their exposure and making it easy to store items.

The race pack was a large transparent bag, which turned out to be very useful for storing personal bags during the race!

To prevent unauthorized runners, each participant was given a wristband. It was comfortable and did not affect sleep as we had worried.

The marathon expo was rich and colorful, with runners rolling up their sleeves to grab freebies and goodies!

We ran into the goddess Hongxia at the marathon expo.

We also ran into the goddess Xiaoshan at the marathon expo.

Our Beijing Marathon

We stayed at the southwest corner of Tiananmen. On September 16th, we left the hotel at 6 AM and immediately joined a group of runners. We were like water flowing through a channel, following the flow through security checks, bag storage, and entering the zones. The process was clear, and we didn't need to look for directions; everything was so natural and smooth.

Holding hands, we excitedly walked towards Tiananmen Square with tens of thousands of people. Qin said, 'It would be rare to meet a familiar face among so many people.'

Just then, we saw the internet celebrity Squid! Every time we took a photo with Squid, he would kindly bend down. He's fast, handsome, and a gentleman. It's unbelievable.

After storing our race packs, we ran into the photography master Sister Dai. We've been photographed by her on the racecourse a few times and have seen her before, but this was our first photo together. Before the race, we read her public account, which reminded runners: 'If you want a photo with Tiananmen in the background, stay to the left.' It proved true; trust Sister Dai, and you'll be rewarded!

Thanks to Sister Dai's advice, we got a few photos with Tiananmen in the background. We can brag about these for a lifetime and post them on social media. Thanks to all the photographers on the racecourse for their hard work.

The most important ceremony before the start was tens of thousands of people singing the national anthem at Tiananmen.

Lin was in Zone B, and Qin was in Zone C. Despite the brief separation, there was an indescribable sense of reluctance. We agreed that Lin would wait for Qin by the arch. The race started promptly at 7:30!

A few minutes after the start, we reunited, holding hands so gently!

Just as we reached Tiananmen, we met the pacer Dao. We didn't care about pace or rhythm; we wanted a photo to capture the moment. Our first encounter with Dao was at last year's Liupanshui Rabbit Banquet, and then again at last year's Chengdu Marathon. As long as we keep running, we'll meet again!

Shortly after leaving Tiananmen, we met the fairy. Our first encounter with the fairy was at the 520 Tianfu Marathon, where we were both official pacers. Marathons are magical like that, meeting and getting to know each other, always having endless topics to talk about. We ran over 10 kilometers with the fairy, and Lin used a human stabilizer to shoot some videos and photos. Having a companion to run with is great!

Later on the racecourse, we met the Kenyan fairy Tina. Two 'fairies' in one frame, and Lin captured the unforgettable moment with his phone, which is now part of our race video (Tina, we're happy to be your background, hehe)!

The private support on the Beijing Marathon course was abundant. Many enthusiastic spectators, adorable children, and running clubs provided private supplies, including porridge, braised dishes, and edamame. Seeing children holding trays melted our hearts. Qin and Lin agreed that if we don't get a spot in the Chengdu Marathon, we'll bring our kids to the course to cheer and set up a Qin-Lin support station.

Regarding course services

The Beijing Marathon's supply stations were color-coded: white for water, blue for drinks, yellow for sponges, and green for food. More details are in our video.

About 100 meters from the finish line, we saw a familiar figure. Wasn't that Xiao Qiye? He captured many unforgettable moments on the course, so we quickly took a few photos of him. We later sent them to him privately after returning to Chengdu, thanking him for his hard work.

The moment we crossed the finish line hand in hand, we looked at each other. This was our Beijing Marathon. It didn't matter how fast or what place we finished; what mattered was that we experienced it together, ran together. For the rest of our lives, we'll travel with our running shoes, run slowly, and grow old together. As per international custom, we took a photo with our twin medals!
