kenya fairies north marathon is just experiencing a few happy things
"Why do you want to run the Beijing Marathon?"
"Running the Beijing Marathon is a sentiment."
This was one of the conversations I had with reporter Dong Rina when she stopped me for an interview just after I crossed the arch at the 2018 Beijing Marathon.
As the national marathon, the Beijing Marathon is an event that every runner should experience at least once in their lifetime. Singing the national anthem in front of Tiananmen Square evokes a deep, sincere emotion in every Chinese heart.
Participating in a race you love is a meaningful experience. Especially having run the Beijing Marathon, when asked, "What is the most memorable marathon you've run?", you can proudly say "Beijing Marathon." I remember seeing a fellow runner post a photo of themselves running in front of Tiananmen Square on social media, saying, "I can finally boast to my grandchildren when I'm old and gray that grandpa ran the Beijing Marathon."
Whether you are a speed chaser or someone who enjoys the race, each participant is one of the unique 30,000 runners in the Beijing Marathon. The Kenyan Elf belongs to the happy-go-lucky group who enjoys the race and is willing to share the joy of the Beijing Marathon with you.
The happiest thing about running a marathon is meeting friends.
I received a direct entry to the Beijing Marathon from Codoon's "All the Way North" event, and my friends kept tagging me, saying, "Remember to come straight to the hotpot restaurant for drinks after the marathon."
So, even before running the Beijing Marathon, I was already thinking about the food and drinks at the hotpot restaurant, kicking off my trip to Beijing.
After a 10-hour train ride with Guanmen Dao, we went straight to the registration site, forgetting all our fatigue when we saw the people we wanted to meet—the members of the Elf Guard.

What does it mean to meet someone late in life?
It's like when the stubborn bull Meng Han Xiaofuzi saw me and gave me a happy hug. This is the natural excitement of like-minded people meeting. He is a fun and lovely person who injured his leg in a car accident but ignored everyone's advice and continued to run the Beijing Marathon, finishing in 3:14. I told him, "I like this stubborn bull!"
What's the most boastful thing you did in Beijing? Participating in the Yibao shoot.
After picking up my gear, I went to Olympic Forest Park to participate in the Codoon and Yibao "Awaken the Running Nature" runner story shoot.
"Are you a pacer for the Beijing Marathon?"
"No, I'm the sweeper pacer for the Codoon and Yibao 'Awaken the Running Nature' runner story."
The Codoon editor told me there was an advertisement of me at the Zhichunlu subway station in Beijing. Curious about how the cartoonist would portray me, I went to see it myself. Honestly, I was flattered by the drawing. Jokes aside, I still love taking photos. When I look back at my experiences when I'm old and gray, I will surely smile.
(Stories from Olympic Forest Park)
The makeup artist was doing my makeup, probably because I needed to look good on video to avoid scaring everyone.
"Don't make me look too pale; I want to stay dark."
"Ahhh..."
The photographer was a bit troubled because he didn't have a foundation dark enough, haha.
"Come, run past this tree, and you can speed up a bit."
The 1.8-meter-tall cameraman was carrying the camera and running alongside me, needing to be faster than me while keeping the camera steady. Seeing him sweat profusely, I couldn't help but ask, "Do you run?" "No, but I've run a lot these past few days..." That's dedication.
Watching them carry heavy equipment, I felt a strong urge to applaud those who don't run but contribute to running.
The feeling at the start of the Beijing Marathon is like the excitement of waves.
"How did you feel when you ran past Tiananmen?"
"Running past Tiananmen felt like crossing into my dreams. At that moment, I felt like an invincible female warrior."
(Thanks to photographer Dai Wuyan for the photos)
This was my answer to a fellow runner's question.
Everyone expresses their feelings differently when running past Tiananmen, but one thing is certain: everyone feels nothing but excitement!
The warmth on the Beijing Marathon route comes from the smiles of the volunteers.
If you ask me what the most beautiful scenery on the Beijing Marathon route is, I would tell you it's the smiles of the volunteers.
I saw a volunteer at the 20-kilometer mark who high-fived me and cheered me on. Isn't her smile sweet and beautiful?
The unsung heroes are the photographers who keep clicking the shutter for everyone.
I particularly like a group of people, the photographers who silently contribute on the racecourse.
(Thanks to photographer Liang Yuan for the photos)
At the starting point, I saw a photographer who took many photos of us. Coincidentally, we met again at the hotpot restaurant after the race. He is photographer Zhou Weiqun.
We agreed that the code for our next meeting would be: "Where to eat hotpot?"
Haha.
"The Beijing Marathon welcomes everyone to join!" photographer Tommy teased in the group.
"It doesn't matter if you catch me or not, I'm definitely catching you!" I replied.
And thus, we have the following photo.
Sorry, I took photographer eVa away.
On the route, I saw photographers eVa and Jason switching locations. I called out to them, and Jason captured a warm moment between me and Momo. Both Momo and Jason are great photographers. I like her, so check if she has captured you too!
At a corner, I saw photographers Daguangquan and Flamingo. Perhaps seeing old friends made me laugh uncontrollably. I'm someone who doesn't hide my excitement when meeting friends.
At the 35K mark, I saw photographer Du Weiwei, an old friend. Seeing him, I couldn't help but shout excitedly, "Ahhh..." Maybe I should learn to be more refined.
There were also two photographers, Liang Yuan and Zhong Jianguo, who had agreed to meet at the Beijing Marathon. I managed to avoid their cameras perfectly. Maybe it's because I'm too dark, and they didn't see me. I promised to bring a magnifying glass next time to find them, haha.
"Friendship" probably deepens through "excitement and laughter."
Chasing me for 40 kilometers were the Cowboy and Wuyu from the Elf Guard.
"My Beijing Marathon was about chasing the Kenyan Elf for 40 kilometers," summarized Cowboy, a member of the Beijing Marathon Elf Tribe. He was in Zone B, while Wuyu, Nana, and I were in Zone D. We agreed to meet at the 5K mark, but there were too many people, and we lost Nana right after starting. Then, Wuyu also got lost. Cowboy kept calling out in the group, asking where to meet—20 kilometers, 30 kilometers... Finally, we met at the 40-kilometer mark. The purpose of the Elf Guard was not to run together but to complete the assigned tasks. Responsibility comes first. Thanks to my Elf Guard members Guanmen Dao, Ding Yi, Cowboy, Wuyu, Nana, and Meng Han Xiaofuzi for perfectly completing the task. As usual, I must show off their beautiful photos.
The most important thing after crossing the finish line of the Beijing Marathon is meeting at the hotpot restaurant.
When Squid pulled me into the Beijing Marathon hotpot group, I knew that this was the most important part of the Beijing Marathon journey—eating and drinking with a group of people who can run, eat, and drink.
"Come over right after you finish!"
After finishing the race, I quickly changed clothes and rushed to meet them. Those who ran fast had already eaten and were hungry again. Luckily, there was still lamb when I arrived. Actually, eating wasn't the main point; the main point was watching them chat and drink endlessly.
With everyone's hugs and farewells, the first round of eating and drinking ended. Then, I followed Guanmen Dao to the second round, a gathering of the Beijing Marathon Rabbit members. This reliable group of rabbits didn't eat carrots today; they ate big buns and lots of meat. I was full, but watching them eat was also a joy.
"Running a marathon" is probably a "large gathering of running friends."
My Beijing Marathon was simple, just experiencing the above happy events. Friends, let's continue to meet at the hotpot restaurant for the next stop!
Finally, I have to show off a photo that I think is beautiful to prove that I ran the Beijing Marathon.
Codoon friends often message me asking if they can take a photo with me when they see me running a marathon.
The Elf's answer is: "Feel free to take as many photos as you want!"
In the 2018 marathon season, the smiling Kenyan Elf will continue to share the happy and interesting things about running marathons. If we meet on the racecourse, remember to say hello.
