Editor's Note:This week's star of the show is a handsome man who combines looks and talent—King Leopard, a finance professional who loves challenges and trying new things. He has a wide range of interests, loves traveling, reading, and blogging. He has also served as a basketball team captain and a golf team captain. Although he originally enjoyed diving and skiing, he fell into the running pit due to weight loss, and since then, he has been unstoppable, eventually getting into trail running and triathlons. Q: When did you start running, and why did you start running/marathons/trail races?


B: I started running at the end of 2014, and the purpose was very simple—just to lose weight. A friend helped me get a spot in the Shanghai Half Marathon, and after running it, I got hooked on marathons.

As for trail running, I only started in mid-2016. The various levels of challenge and diverse scenery inexplicably attracted me. Up to now, I have completed three 100-kilometer races, including the Hong Kong 100 and UTMF. It's still hard to believe when I think about it.

Running has had the biggest impact on me by making me more handsome, more energetic, and better at drinking. Most importantly, by sharing my running stories, I have met runners from all over the country, which is quite interesting.

Q: Have you ever calculated how many marathon races you have participated in over the years? What are your PB and PW?


B: So far, I have participated in 30 full marathon races.Overseas marathons includethe Bordeaux Wine Marathon, Berlin, Kuala Lumpur, Osaka, Tokyo, Singapore Sunset Marathon, Thailand Elephant Island, Kyoto, and more than ten other overseas marathons.

My PB is 3:25 at this year's Seoul Marathon, and my PW is 6:18 at the Bordeaux Wine Marathon.

Q: Can you recommend a few of your favorite races to Codoon friends?


B: My favorite is still the Tokyo Marathon. Firstly, the Tokyo area is convenient for tourism, eating, and shopping. Secondly, the service on the course and the level of the participants are very high, making it very comfortable to run.

If it's just about personal preference, the Bordeaux Wine Marathon is a must-go. With a winery every two miles and people getting drunk every ten steps, it's super fun. The premise is that you have to be able to drink a lot and love cosplay!

Of course, the Shanghai Marathon is my favorite. Whether it's the EXPO, the race atmosphere, or the charm of the city itself, it makes people want to go again and again. The Xi'an and Wuhan Marathons are also highly recommended. Besides the excellent organization, the main attraction is the food.

Q: Can you talk about your happiest/saddest/proudest race experience?


B: I think my first marathon in Chiang Mai was quite happy. Although I was a novice runner with less than 100 kilometers of total mileage and no preparation, I cramped up badly in the later stages, but finishing the race felt super satisfying. The next day, I could still have fun, which laid the foundation for my running + tourism style.

Actually, I haven't had any sad races. The Singapore Sunset Marathon was probably the most tiring. Staying up late, the heat and humidity, and carrying a DSLR for the entire race were exhausting, but the memories are still beautiful.

The proudest race was the 2017 Kyoto Marathon. As a pacer, I helped my girlfriend Dabao complete the sub-4-hour task! Perfect sub-4!

Q: Have you ever withdrawn from a race? What was your most regrettable race?


B: I withdrew once, in the famous Jiangshan 100 race. At that time, the low temperature and flooding made it quite dangerous, so I always felt that my withdrawal was wise.

I run quite casually and often feel fine after running, so I wonder what the result would be if I ran a bit faster or didn't stop. Perhaps the regret is that I didn't give it my all.

If I have to mention one race, it would probably be the Macau Marathon at the end of last year. I was fortunate to be selected as a Macau Marathon ambassador but couldn't participate due to a lost document.

Q: Can you share the races you plan to participate in soon?


B: In September, I plan to run the Berlin Marathon to achieve a BQ time for the 2019 Boston Marathon, and then participate in the Four Sisters Mountain race at the end of October.

Q: Besides running, what other hobbies do you have?


B: My favorite sports are basketball, golf, diving, and skiing. My hobbies are reading, writing, traveling, and photography. Besides writing for my public account (King Leopard) and bragging, I also write articles for some travel platforms. Recently, I enjoy shooting short videos to record beautiful moments in life.


Q: Do you have any suggestions for preparing for overseas marathons?


B: Ahem, marathon tips from King Leopard coming up~

1. Pay attention to the climate:

Although most races are scheduled for dates with decent weather, there can still be significant temperature changes between day and night. When running in colder places, prepare a raincoat or disposable clothing to discard at the start.

2. Learn a few phrases in the local language:

Running marathons abroad allows you to directly experience the local people's enthusiasm. Learning a few phrases like 'hello' and 'thank you' can help bridge the gap.

Avoid trying mysterious foods before the race. To prevent discomfort or embarrassment during the race, avoid eating unfamiliar or overly spicy foods the day before.

3. Read the race manual thoroughly:

Each race committee has different rules, usually outlined in the race manual. If you don't understand the language, ask fellow runners for important details. Sometimes, there are perks mentioned in the manual. Avoid scheduling too many activities the day before the race.

While it's tempting to make the most of your time when traveling abroad, plan some low-key activities the day before the race. Also, familiarize yourself with the routes to and from the start and finish lines to avoid excessive leg fatigue. If your accommodation is too far from the start, it can cause issues on race day. If it's too far from the finish, it can increase post-race fatigue.

4. Download essential apps in advance:

Prepare for your trip by downloading apps for travel guides, food, maps, transportation, translation, etc., while still in your home country.

    Q: Speaking of running, let's talk about your lifestyle. Looking at your photos, you seem to eat and drink a lot. How do you maintain your good physique?

    B: Since I don't control my diet, I have to exercise more. I do chest presses and back exercises. I don't want to have the flat physique of a marathon runner, so I also do strength training at the gym.
