dont fear confusion coolly advance rudy maya review
Blocking light, correcting myopia, looking cool—can one pair of glasses handle it all? Just when I was troubled by this, I was delighted to find that Codoon's review lab had launched a pair of myopia sports glasses that caught my eye. Luckily, my application for a review was approved. After less than half a month of testing, including business trips, running, competitions, and office use, I'm ready to share my experience with you.
1. Brand Introduction
RUDY, a brand that seemed unfamiliar to a homebody used to traditional domestic glasses. So, I did some research on Baidu:
RUDY, an Italian brand known for its sports sunglasses, is hailed as the 'Rolls-Royce of the global eyewear industry'—Rudy Project. Many top athletes around the world favor Rudy Project. I think this reputation alone perfectly explains its price tag.
As a reviewer, our focus should be on its performance.
2. Unboxing
The model I tested is the Rudy Project Myopia Photochromic Sports Glasses MAYA, in black and gold. This custom pair can accommodate myopia from 0 to 800 degrees. Mine are set at 450 degrees for the left eye and 425 degrees for the right eye, both with 200 astigmatism.
Upon receiving the package, the complete set and multilingual manual made the elderly at home think it was some high-tech electronic product (laughing and crying).
Taking it out under the sunlight, it immediately switched to its sun mode before I could even recognize its original color. The side of the temple still had the Italian tricolor tag.
3. Product Analysis
1. Frame
The frame of the Rudy MAYA Myopia Photochromic Sports Glasses is made of space alloy and TR memory material. TR is a high-molecular memory material, currently the most popular ultra-light frame material internationally. It weighs only as much as a one-yuan coin, reducing the burden on the nose and ears, making it suitable for teenagers. It is highly wear-resistant, chemically resistant, solvent-resistant, weather-resistant, non-flammable, and high-temperature resistant. Its memory feature makes lens removal and installation particularly convenient.
As shown in the video, my first attempt at disassembly took just over 10 seconds. Initially worried about reassembly, I was surprised to complete it in less than 20 seconds. It's unimaginable—changing lenses is as easy as changing a phone case.
2. Nose Pads and Temples
The nose pads and temples of the MAYA Myopia Photochromic Sports Glasses use a bionic silicone material that fits the skin better. Even after running a marathon, with sweat and salt covering the temples, it won't cause redness or injury to the skin.
Additionally, the temples and nose pads can be freely deformed to fit various noses and ears. They also maintain a certain strength to prevent falling off during sports. This, I believe, is the power of technology.
3. Lenses
The quality of glasses largely depends on the lenses, and this is the most anticipated feature of these glasses.
RUDY lenses use irregular cutting to ensure the safety of myopic athletes. Irregular cutting involves R-angle cutting, U-shaped slot cutting, and C-angle cutting based on different needs. The core of irregular cutting is to drill and polish the top of the lens, first using a precision diamond milling cutter to polish the arc on 0.3mm glass, then using CNC for fine detailing, ensuring the yield and precision of each cut piece. RUDY's irregular cutting technology provides a wider field of view, enhancing the visual experience and usability for athletes.
4. Real-World Testing
Wearing them for a morning run, without UV exposure, the lenses didn't change color. Through the lenses, the cherry blossoms on both sides of the road appeared clearer and more beautiful. The wider field of view initially took some getting used to, especially for the ground right in front of my toes. I misjudged the road bumps a few times, but this small difference was fully adapted to after half a day.
In the evening, facing the sunlight, the lenses slightly changed color under the soft light, effectively protecting my eyes.
Next, I wore them to participate in the Wuxi Marathon. On that sunny day, they turned into cool sunglasses under the strong light, adding a touch of confidence compared to other participants.
After finishing the race, under indoor lighting, the lenses quickly returned to their original color. No matter the occasion, RUDY PROJECT—MAYA can handle it with ease.
Summary
Overall, the RUDY PROJECT—MAYA has a high level of sophistication. For a tech enthusiast used to wearing black-framed glasses, switching to these glasses feels like a transformation, making me look much cooler, if not more attractive. From a practical standpoint, these glasses serve multiple purposes, addressing needs for myopia correction, sports, and sun protection. I no longer need to attach a clip-on sunshade for outdoor experiments. The expanded field of view allows me to see my surroundings more clearly, almost like using my own eyes, providing an immersive experience that makes me unconsciously widen my eyes to observe everything. The only drawback during the trial period was that prolonged use could cause eye fatigue. I believe this issue will diminish with longer use and the fading of the novelty, allowing me to wear them more often. After all, wearing them is incredibly cool!
