as a marathon enthusiast i have some thoughts on post race recovery


My name is Guo Yanhu, but everyone calls me Tiger. I am a marathon enthusiast.

 

I started running in 2015, and it's been over four years now. I might be considered a fitness addict. In the first two years, after completing my first marathon in Beijing, I fell in love with running. The transition from trying out running to loving it, from adapting to the running state to enjoying the thrill of running, is exhilarating.

 

As a participant, today I want to talk to you not about the passion for running, but to share some key points on post-race recovery based on my own experience.

Whether it's a full marathon or a half marathon, the physical exertion is immense, and the physical fitness requirements are very high; whether you are an elite runner or an ordinary runner,during the race, your muscles, tendons, various hormone secretions, and physiological metabolism—almost all bodily functions—are pushed to their limits.

 

If you don't fully recover from a strenuous marathon before engaging in another high-intensity activity, you will first increase your risk of injury, and secondly, it will limit your long-term athletic potential, making it difficult to break your personal best (PB) and maintain health, significantly impacting your future running career.Therefore, for post-race recovery, we need effective scientific methods.

 

The moment you cross the finish line, your body is in a state of severe energy depletion and dehydration,and you need to immediately consume foods that can quickly replenish energy without causing a rapid spike in blood sugar—like I mentioned earlier, foods that can quickly restore energy are the best choice.There are many recommendations for such foods available on Baidu, but most healthy options are not convenient, and many convenient foods are not healthy, so I won't elaborate here.
