beauty and sound fly high jaybird run true wireless earbuds

Thanks to Codoon, I am very honored to have the opportunity to review the Jaybird RUN wireless Bluetooth sports earphones. I have had the earphones for 10 days, charged them twice, and tested them on three runs. I believe I now have a systematic understanding of these earphones. I am sharing this review for fellow runners who are considering buying them.

[Selfie to start]

This review will cover six aspects: appearance, comfort and stability, operability, battery life, sound effects and quality, and cost performance. Before the formal review, I kindly remind all runners: please pay attention to safety when running on the road, try to lower the volume or wear only one earphone, otherwise, you might not hear approaching vehicles and could get lost in the music, leading to irreparable consequences. Exercise is for health, and life is the foundation of health.

Please take the above text seriously, and thank you for reading.

First, let's get to know Jaybird. It is a running-specific earphone brand created by Logitech in 2006, dedicated to developing professional sports products and has a good reputation among sports enthusiasts. Over the past 12 years, Jaybird has launched several professional sports earphones, gradually becoming one of the top brands in the global sports earphone field and an official partner of many well-known American events. Appearance

The packaging of the Jaybird RUN is very exquisite. Upon opening the inner box, the first thing you see on the lid is 'Power your passion,' which translates to 'Inject energy into your passion.' This shows the designer's understanding of running enthusiasts: ignite yourself with your passion and release energy!

The charging case is located in the center of the box, with a matte black color that looks deep and stylish. It is compact and can be placed in a small bag or pocket.

Opening the separate small box inside, you will find the manual, charging cable, storage bag, and four sets of ear tips and fins of different sizes.

Press the open button on the charging case, and it will automatically pop open. Inside are the main characters—wireless Bluetooth earphones. The deep blue and silver-white color scheme is very trendy, fresh, and simple, with very fine workmanship. Compared to some brightly colored earphones on the market, they appear calm and low-key, suitable for both men and women, and look very cool.

If I had to question the appearance of these earphones, I would say the only drawback is the dark color, making them hard to find if dropped. However, after my test wear, I found that these earphones have extremely strong wearing stability. If worn correctly, it is hard for them to fall off.

Comfort and Stability

If you ask me what I value most in running earphones, I would say without hesitation: comfort and stability. Because no matter how beautiful the color or how good the sound quality, if they are uncomfortable to wear or fall off while running, it affects not only the mood but also the rhythm of the run, which is not worth it.

I am not an earphone enthusiast, so I have used many earphones whose names I can't remember. These include wired earphones that come with iPhone, Huawei, and Oppo phones, as well as some commonly seen Bluetooth earphones (wired).

Wired earphones are very inconvenient. Other Bluetooth earphones I have tried are not stable; they fall out while running, so I had to switch back to wired earphones, which are less convenient but at least don't fall out. Running while constantly adjusting earphones is no fun.

In terms of comfort, I prefer another Jaybird earphone: the X4. It comes with foam ear tips, which feel very soft in the ears and are unforgettable. However, my running friends know that I lost my X4 earphones on the first day of use, even before running with them.

[This picture commemorates my X4]

So I can't comment on their stability. For me, the comfort of the RUN, except for the foam ear tips, is on par with the X4. The foam ear tips are my personal preference. Since even the shortest wire is omitted, I give the comfort vote to the RUN for its completely unrestrained feeling.

In terms of stability, the RUN is undoubtedly the best among the earphones I have used. Whether running at a pace of 3xx or 8xx, they stay firmly in my ears without any shift or bounce. Even when I take off my magic headband after running, they don't budge at all—I made a GIF of taking off the headband ⬇️⬇️

Operability

With perfect comfort and stability, the convenience of operation is another huge highlight of these earphones.

Previous Bluetooth earphones had many buttons: power button, track change button, volume button, plus a charging port, making them bulky and hard to operate. Jaybird RUN handles all functions with one button: answering calls, playing and pausing music, skipping tracks, etc.

When you open the case, the Jaybird RUN earphones automatically start and prompt you to connect to your phone's Bluetooth. Even the first pairing is very fast. The connection is also very stable; during my testing, there were no sudden interruptions in the music. However, there were occasional brief silences in one earphone, which I don't understand technically. But both earphones never went silent simultaneously, and the single-ear silence never lasted more than three seconds, so it didn't affect running. Additionally, the call quality is very clear. The buttons are also very responsive, making it easy to switch tracks with a double click.

Jaybird RUN's noise-canceling capability is second only to the Bose noise-canceling headphones I've used. With medium volume and both earphones on, you can't hear car horns unless they're right next to you, which is why I gave the safety reminder at the beginning. The designers also included single-ear operation, with 90% of functions accessible through the right earphone alone, greatly ensuring road running safety. For a truly immersive experience, turn up the volume when running on a track!

Battery Life

The earphones are great in terms of wearing and operation, so the next thing to consider is battery life.

The official data shows 4 hours of playback time on a full charge, plus 8 hours from the charging case.

It seems this is a conservative company. On my first test run, they lasted 4.5 hours. Here are the specific time and battery screenshots ⬇btw, I am a qualified tester, haha.

So, if you don't use both earphones simultaneously, a full marathon runner can listen from start to finish within its battery life, which is very impressive.

The 8 hours from the charging case have also been verified. So, any concerns about battery life can be dismissed!

Sound Effects and Quality

I apologize for my limited knowledge of earphones and inability to provide a professional evaluation of sound effects and quality. As a novice, I think the sound quality is far superior to any phone's default earphones. With my limited understanding of music, I find the highs are not sharp, the lows are rich, and the overall sound is smooth and stable, accurately representing the music.

Additionally, Jaybird RUN has a dedicated app. After downloading and registering, you can adjust the sound effects to customize your personal sound profile. This feature is very appealing. However, I couldn't find it in the Android store, which is disappointing. Here are two screenshots of the sound adjustment interface on someone else's iPhone for reference.

Cost Performance

The Jaybird RUN true wireless sports earphones (black) are priced at 999 RMB on JD.com's official flagship store (the Li Yifeng voice-customized limited edition (blue) is 1299 RMB). Objectively speaking, these earphones are expensive, but I think they are worth it—they won the CES Innovation Design Award in 2017, proving they are a combination of beauty and performance. In addition to the advantages mentioned above, Jaybird RUN also uses a dual nano waterproof coating, designed to prevent sweat corrosion. You no longer have to worry about sweat damaging the earphones. Moreover, the app has a location tracking feature, so you won't easily lose such an expensive pair of earphones in the grass at night.

If you want to be free from cumbersome earphone wires and operations, and if you want to enjoy a perfect fit and better sound quality while running, choose Jaybird RUN. It will not disappoint you.
