after trying codoon live courses i made up my mind

As a standard foodie and couch potato, I also have a desire to lose weight and get fit. However, after three experiences of getting gym memberships, I finally came to a clear realization about myself: losing weight is impossible, it’s never going to happen in this lifetime.

Back then, to motivate myself to exercise more, I specifically spent 1300 yuan on a gym five kilometers from home. I managed to walk there for two days, but I was already out of breath before even starting the workout.

Later, I switched to a gym one kilometer from home. The distance was shorter, but there were too few coaches to choose from, their skills were lacking, and the fees were high. The membership cost 1500 yuan, and each personal training session was 300 yuan. The coaches lacked enthusiasm and didn’t interact with the trainees. After two sessions, I got bored and didn’t want to go anymore. Finally, I switched to a fitness studio downstairs from my office, which cost 2000 yuan. Although the fees were high, the coaches were professional and patient. However, every session was fully booked, and I couldn’t get a spot.

All three membership fees went down the drain. Since then, whenever I see someone handing out gym flyers on the street, I turn and run away.

A friend told me that if I didn’t want to get a membership, I could try Codoon Live’s fitness classes, a new service launched on September 19th, which is perfect for someone like me who wants to lose weight. At first, I was very skeptical. Online fitness? That’s even less reliable than a gym. The person on the screen wouldn’t know if I was doing it right or wrong, there’s no one to guide or correct me, and I’d be all alone, which is even less interesting.

It wasn’t until my friend got me a beta test slot for Codoon Live that I realized how quickly I could be proven wrong.

The course theme was the legendary HIIT training, known for its immediate fat-burning effects. HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training.Since it was a test version, there was only this one live class available. Once the feature officially launches, there will be multiple courses and coaches to choose from.

I heard that the course coaches are top-notch fitness trainers in the industry, so my mom no longer has to worry about me encountering unprofessional coaches giving poor guidance.

According to Codoon’s introduction, the core difference between this live course and other fitness courses is that Codoon Live can see the trainees’ exercise data in real-time, specifically heart rate and calorie consumption. This allows the coach to give guidance based on the data changes. Therefore, before entering the course, the system prompts you to bind a heart rate monitoring device to the Codoon App, such as Codoon’s smart heart rate earphones, Apple Watch, or Bluetooth heart rate strap.

I used Codoon’s smart heart rate earphones, Quiet. Once I entered the course, I could see my heart rate and calorie consumption displayed on the right side, updating in real-time.

The left side of the screen showed the coach’s live video. The background wall displayed Codoon’s logo in both Chinese and English. The screen was clean and simple, the live video quality was clear, the signal was stable without lag, and the sound was clear and loud.

As other trainees joined, a collapsible list appeared on the left side showing all the trainees’ names and their respective calorie consumption. My data was highlighted with a different background color. The list was sorted in descending order of calorie consumption. Clicking the double arrows would collapse the list, not affecting the live stream view. It’s important to note that if you don’t wear a heart rate device, you can still take the course, but your personal information won’t appear in the ranking list.

The bottom left corner was the chat area where trainees and the coach could freely communicate, ask questions, answer, or chat. Currently, it only supports text input, but I heard it will soon be upgraded to support voice input that automatically converts to text, which sounds very high-tech.

Although users can only see other trainees’ calorie consumption, the coach can see everyone’s real-time heart rate and calorie changes. Heart rate reflects exercise intensity, and calories reflect the amount of energy burned.

The approximate heart rate range varies with different exercises. The coach determines the approximate heart rate range based on exercise intensity. If they notice a trainee’s heart rate is too low, they can promptly remind them to speed up and keep pace. If they notice a trainee’s heart rate is too high or abnormal, they can remind them to slow down or provide assistance.

The coach’s eyes were really sharp. While everyone was enthusiastically jumping, I slacked off and did a few half-hearted moves. The coach immediately noticed my heart rate was only 85, much lower than the other trainees, and called me out for slacking off. It was so embarrassing.

With Codoon Live, slacking off is impossible, it’s never going to happen in this lifetime.

After the course ended, clicking the text in the middle of the screen showed the post-class summary.

The post-class summary displayed my total exercise time, average heart rate, calories burned, and heart rate changes throughout the session. I could also like the coach and other trainees and book the next class.

Overall, this live experience made me very excited. Especially being able to see my heart rate and calorie consumption in real-time, understanding my physical condition and exercise status through data felt very novel. The constantly changing exercise leaderboard further motivated all trainees to exercise earnestly. When I felt tired, I would vent and joke with other trainees in the comment section, and the previously unbearable time passed by unnoticed.

The coach’s guidance was very professional, with detailed explanations for each key movement, reminding trainees of important details and common mistakes. The timely reminders and supervision based on heart rate and calorie data made the fitness process full of interactive fun. Being constantly watched by the coach also left me no room to slack off, making the workout more effective.

Honestly, Codoon’s CEO, you should reflect on this, why did you launch such a great thing so late!If I don’t give you a beating(The editor with a strong survival instinct silently crossed out this sentence) it wouldn’t justify the money I wasted on memberships over the past few years!
