codoon intelligent running shoes 21k ultralight version just for you
Codoon has become the hottest running app in China. From its initial focus on tracking workouts to incorporating social features and now having its own sports brand, it has achieved all this in just a few years. Codoon is constantly striving to innovate, driven largely by its vast community of users. With technological advancements, we have entered the smart era where you can make payments with just a phone scan, making life more convenient. Similarly, exercise is no longer monotonous. Codoon's smart running shoes combine footwear with intelligent chips, teaching us how to exercise scientifically and effectively. These shoes act as your personal coach, leading to the creation of the Codoon 21K.
The first 21K was launched in September 2017 and won the 'Top Ten National Running Shoes' award at the China Marathon Expo. After a year of refinement, Codoon released the 21K Ultra-Light version this year, with significant improvements in performance, appearance, fit, and breathability. I am very fortunate to review these shoes and hope to experience the thoughtful changes Codoon has made.
Unboxing
The unboxing experience is impressive, with the new model's color scheme being a significant upgrade from the old one.
The colors are more vibrant and bold, featuring many contrasting hues. The pair I received is called 'Jumping Gray,' which, as the name suggests, features a light gray base with striking orange accents. The orange on the heel and laces complement each other, making the otherwise understated color scheme stand out, simple yet sophisticated.
The change in materials and the streamlined design make the shoes look lightweight, which they indeed are. Through optimization and upgrades, each shoe is about 30 grams lighter than the previous generation, weighing in at 240 grams, significantly reducing foot fatigue.
The double-layer breathable mesh upper is lighter and more breathable, with different mesh patterns on the front and sides.
The side stripes are not only aesthetically pleasing but also provide tear-resistant support.
The reflective material at the heel, with the 21K number clearly visible, enhances safety for night running and serves as a promotional feature. The mesh design at the heel is very sturdy, securely fixing the ankle to prevent sprains.
The tongue has a hidden pocket to tuck in the laces, preventing them from coming loose and causing tripping during exercise. The insoles are very bouncy, reminiscent of gummy bears, with excellent rebound effects.
Next up are the midsole and outsole, where Codoon has put in a lot of effort: Ortholite insoles, DUO-HEE elastic midsoles, GEL energy-absorbing gel, and EVA cushioning outsoles. Each component can be individually compared and has been tested in a crusher to check the cushioning function. In layman's terms, the shoes are 'soft,' providing a sensation often described as 'stepping on poop,' which is the first impression when you put them on.
Of course, softness alone is not enough. The EVA cushioning outsole is covered with wear-resistant rubber patches, with varying hardness depending on the stress areas. The heel is harder than the forefoot. The anti-torsion patch in the middle also helps correct pronation and supination.
There is a teardrop-shaped groove in the sole for placing the smart chip. The chip box includes a written manual and a quick guide. Simply scan the code to follow the steps, making it very user-friendly and convenient.
First, you need to log into the Codoon app on your phone, then scan the QR code on the chip. The binding process, as shown in the image, is completed in just three easy steps, taking only a few seconds.
After binding, relevant training courses are recommended, which you can click to learn and train. During exercise, there will be real-time voice guidance on your running posture, speed, etc. After running, the app provides intelligent scoring, analyzing your gait, cadence, stride length, and foot strike pattern, allowing you to understand your running state more intuitively.
Field Test
In the hot summer, with morning run temperatures above 25 degrees, the shoes' breathability and sweat-wicking functions are put to the test. During the run, the 21K doesn't feel as soft as when first worn. The fit is strong, with excellent rebound and shock absorption. There is no discomfort at the heel, making the run smooth and easy. Even after ten kilometers, the feet remain dry and comfortable, making these shoes ideal for beginners, daily slow runs, and heavier runners.
On mountain trails, the grip is excellent, especially when climbing slopes and stone steps. The wear-resistant rubber patches on the outsole grip the ground firmly. The sawtooth-like shape increases friction with the ground, giving the shoes the capability of trail running shoes.
The shoes perform well both outdoors and indoors. During strength training exercises like squats, the feet feel very stable, without tilting forward or backward, allowing for more stable movements.
Now, let's talk about the price, which everyone cares about the most. The crowdfunding price on JD.com is only 269 yuan. Many of my friends want to get a pair after seeing me wear them because they are such a great value. This is the cost-effectiveness of Codoon running shoes.
Ending exorbitant profits, Codoon returns running to its affordable essence. Codoon's slogan is to always produce high-quality products comparable to international brands but at less than half the price. This alone deserves high praise. As a three-year user of Codoon, I can say that their achievements today are inseparable from their hard work.
Conclusion
The Codoon 21K Ultra-Light is a highly recommended running shoe, offering great value in terms of appearance, performance, and cost-effectiveness. It is suitable for beginners, daily marathon training, mountain climbing, and strength training. Of course, there are more expectations for it, such as more styles and colors and even lighter materials to make it perfect.
