2017 is about to end, how was your year?
This year, someone created a miracle, becoming the first female live streamer to receive over a billion likes in a month;
This year, someone became the first amateur athlete in history to compete in the National Games triathlon;
This year, someone braved a typhoon and cycled 182 kilometers to complete the 'Ride to the Sky';
This year, someone measured their dreams with their feet, running 13,050 kilometers around China in 366 days;
…
The Black Cat: The female sports live streamer with over a billion likes in a month
Every Wednesday at 9 PM, Brother Cat hosts a 90-minute live show 'Black Cat Arrives' on Codoon, without relying on looks, pushing boundaries, or seeking attention.
So how did she become the female live streamer with over a billion likes in a month?
Because she never forgets her Wednesday commitment, always shows up on time, and has never missed an appointment;
Because she shares valuable knowledge, prepares her live content in advance every week, and seriously answers everyone's questions;
Because she shows everyone through her actions that moving makes people more beautiful!
Because she has only one goal:
To lead more people to join in sports!
(Editor's note: Brother Cat's influence is everywhere. A certain editor who doesn't like sports made a bet with Brother Cat to lose ten pounds by the next meeting, or Brother Cat would ignore her; even someone who doesn't like sports couldn't resist Brother Cat's repeated encouragement and slowly joined in. Perhaps, this is the power of sports!)
He competed as an individual and beat 21 professional athletes
On September 3, 2017, at the Tianjin National Games, the men's individual triathlon final took place. The Liberation Army team won overwhelmingly, with Bai Faqian winning the gold medal in 1 hour, 49 minutes, and 50.547 seconds. Xu Zheng won the silver medal in 1 hour, 50 minutes, and 5.170 seconds, and Li Mingxu from the Hebei team won the bronze medal in 1 hour, 50 minutes, and 5.913 seconds. Competing as an individual, Bas Li Pengcheng finished 17th out of 38 participants with a time of 2 hours, 0 minutes, and 51.193 seconds, making history!
Training alone, preparing alone, competing alone, Bas appeared lonely and desolate on the National Games stage, unlike the other 37 professional athletes who had teammates and coaches. Bas could only rely on himself.
Bas may have been underestimated in the past, but from this day on, he became the first amateur triathlete to compete and successfully finish the National Games, recorded in history. Whether it was the 21 people he surpassed or the 16 people ahead of him, they will surely respect this amateur athlete who competed as an individual.
(Editor's note: What is passion? I think Bas has perfectly illustrated the meaning of passion. Being yourself means giving it your all! Who says ordinary people can't play triathlons? Bas showed everyone through his actions that nothing is impossible! Best wishes to everyone who works hard and perseveres for their passion, you are the best!)
Cycling 182 kilometers in a typhoon, if that's not tough, what is?
The 'Ride to the Sky' event in Guangzhou took place at the Baishuizhai Scenic Area, known as the 'Gorgeous Emerald on the Tropic of Cancer.' No one would have expected that this picturesque place would witness a fierce battle between over a thousand warriors and a typhoon.
When Typhoon 'Paka' made landfall in Guangdong, the inflatable gate was almost blown down while waiting for the start, and the aerial drone was shaking uncontrollably. As the wind grew stronger, we set off with the sound of a gunshot, not knowing that this would be a 182-kilometer battle against the wind and rain...
Completing 196 kilometers in 9 hours, with a total ascent of 1826 meters, the 'Ride to the Sky' route was indeed challenging, with the event level described as 'tough.' Nine hours seemed tight, but I maintained a good mindset, didn't rush, managed my pace and energy well, and faced the strong wind, heavy rain, and cold weather with a smile. What else could I do...
I kept a steady pace, not too fast or slow, and reached the finish line before the cutoff time, earning the bullhead medal for this stage.
(Editor's note: 'Facing the wind and rain with a smile, easily winning the medal' sounds easy, but anyone who has experienced a typhoon knows how terrifying it can be. Cycling in a typhoon requires immense courage. As the title says, she truly is a tough woman who faces adversity with optimism!)
366 days, 13,050 kilometers, he measured his dreams with his feet
On November 1, Xiong Xiong completed the second phase of his run around China in 250 days, covering 9,000 kilometers from Shanghai to Hohhot.
Along the way, combined with last year's first phase from Shanghai to Kunming, a journey of 4,050 kilometers, he has been running for a total of 366 days, covering 13,050 kilometers, traversing about half of China. To be precise, he passed through 111 cities or regions in China.
If the first long journey was just a test of ability, then this journey made us firmly believe in the power of dreams.
Next year, he will continue with the third phase, challenging the journey from Kunming to Kashgar in Xinjiang. This route is the most dangerous but also the most tempting, mostly in the uninhabited areas of Xinjiang, with deserts, the Gobi, crossing the Kunlun Mountains, and extreme temperatures, greatly testing physical fitness. Let's look forward to it together.
(Editor's note: During the interview with Xiong Xiong, I asked him how he balances dreams and 'bread.' He told me that he chose to fight for his dreams at the prime of his life, doing what he believes is right at the right age, without regrets, and he is very satisfied! So, do you still remember what your dream is?)
The day before the marathon, I was still on dialysis in the hospital
This is the story of a marathon runner with uremia. What image comes to mind when we think of uremia?
But he is different.
'Thirteen years have passed, and if I say it was easier than I imagined, I don't know how you would feel. Actually, it's nothing, as long as you have firm belief and face it optimistically, everything in work and life remains the same.
In 2009, I founded an advertising company, which is now on track. I never gave up my passion for running, but due to health reasons and doctor's advice, I only jogged a few kilometers each week. Until September 2015, I completed the Li Ning 10K Qingdao race in 56 minutes for the first time, and I felt great. Since then, I couldn't stop.
I subsequently completed full marathons in Xiamen, Dongying, Beijing, Shanghai, and Harbin, and half marathons in Linyi, Suzhou, Qingdao, Wuxi, and others. My personal best for a full marathon is 3:34, and for a half marathon, it's 1:44. In May 2017, I also participated in the Laoshan 100-kilometer trail race, completing the 50-kilometer group in 12 hours and 27 minutes.'
(Editor's note: During the interview with Brother Xue, I was moved by his optimism. It's hard to believe he is a 'sick' person. If you only look at his achievements, they are even better than many people! You see, such a person is still actively receiving treatment and persisting in his passion for running. What excuse do we have not to work hard?)
In fact, there are no so-called 'gods,'
it's just that they put in more effort and sweat, making them seem 'extraordinary.'
We are all on the path to becoming 'gods,' but some are walking, and some are running.
Alright, this was their 2017, full of excitement, surprises, and emotions...
