bimai 21k lite running shoes growth through comparison
As 'light' as a leaf, the Mile 21K lite features a three-dimensional support structure combined with a lightweight, durable outsole, making running even more effortless!
Every time I see this picture, I am deeply attracted and moved by the slogan, especially the phrase 'as light as a leaf.' I wonder just how light it is. Over the past year, my performance has improved somewhat, so do I need a pair of lightweight running shoes to help boost my performance? To my surprise, luck struck again, and I was once again selected to be a reviewer for the Mile 21K lite. Thanks to Codoon for organizing the event, and thanks to Bmai! Next, I will compare the Mile 21K lite with the previous generation, showcasing its growth bit by bit to everyone, embodying Bmai's spirit of 'every step is a surpassing one!'
Weight
The previous generation weighed 320g, while the Mile 21K lite weighs 245g, making each shoe 75g lighter. No wonder my first impression upon receiving the package was how light it felt. It wasn't until I opened the packaging and saw the shoes that I realized they were running shoes. I couldn't believe they could be this light.
Packaging
The material is still familiar, but the design details have been thoughtfully improved. A small change allows the outer packaging to be reused, aligning with today's societal emphasis on recycling and environmental protection.
Appearance
Upon opening the packaging, I saw a pair of stable blue running shoes. Under the light, the 3M reflective trim on the toe immediately dazzled my eyes. In addition to this change from the previous generation, there are also reflective heel tabs and large areas of reflective material on both sides, enhancing safety for night running. The choice of a more subdued color this time might be a design preference for a more internalized feeling.
The upper still uses jacquard mesh fabric, which is indeed good for breathability and comfort. Removing the insole, I saw the stitching was still very neat (along with the production date and size).
The new midsole structure and support structure, combined with a high-quality lightweight, durable rubber outsole with a new tread pattern, effectively disperse pressure, making each takeoff feel very smooth, like a continuously variable transmission, enhancing propulsion.
Test Run
The day after receiving the running shoes, I ran a half marathon. Wearing the shoes, I didn't feel the forward tilt like the previous generation, but rather felt that the shoes and my feet became one. The wrapping was more comfortable. Running a half marathon with new shoes, there was no need for a break-in period, and there was no discomfort. The moisture-wicking, quick-drying lining provided a comfortable and dry feel, stabilizing and protecting the heel. The stability during turns was excellent.
They are indeed very light. The new technology is really comfortable. Many shoes sacrifice cushioning to achieve lightweight, but the Mile 21K lite manages to balance both. Using ultra-light cushioning EVA technology and a dam-like support structure, it mitigates the impact of landing. Combined with the jacquard mesh upper, it provides a lasting wrap that fits the foot shape, maintaining overall smoothness in movement whether taking off, landing, or turning. After a half marathon, my feet didn't feel stuffy, but were dry and highly breathable. However, I'm not sure about the insulation effect in lower temperatures. I wonder if this aspect has been improved compared to the previous generation.
Next, I tested the shoes on different surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, and tiled sidewalks, and in different weather conditions. The lightweight nature of the shoes was evident in every aspect. Walking on smooth tiles produced a 'squeak, squeak, squeak' sound, indicating good grip. This was confirmed during a test run on a rainy day. Compared to the previous generation, the anti-slip effect is superior. In light rain, I could speed up boldly and turn confidently. The front rubber material of the upper effectively prevented water droplets from splashing up from the toe, keeping the upper dry, which is often overlooked by many shoes. Running on uneven surfaces, the shoes' pursuit of lightweight meant that the cushioning was also ultra-light and relatively thin, making the foot feel particularly pronounced. This could easily lead to a sprained ankle. However, the Mile 21K lite is designed for roads and plastic tracks, so it doesn't focus much on this aspect.
So far, I've run over 60 kilometers in these running shoes. My biggest concern is the durability of the outsole. The full-length lightweight, durable rubber of the Mile 21K lite is outstanding. Compared to the previous generation, it truly surpasses in every aspect. In the previous generation, I could still point out a few shortcomings, such as the shoes' anti-slip properties, reflectivity, cushioning, and durability. All these issues have been addressed in the Mile 21K lite, leaving nothing to criticize. If I had to suggest an area for improvement, it would be to offer more color options to meet the needs of different user groups.
