dji osmo mobile gimbal review

First of all, I would like to thank Codoon for giving me the opportunity to review the DJI Osmo Mobile Gimbal.

Let's start with some basic information about DJI.

Shenzhen DJI Innovations Technology Co., Ltd. is a global leader in the independent research and manufacturing of drone flight platforms and imaging systems, as shown in the image below.

Now, let's get back to the main topic and review the Osmo Mobile Gimbal.

Appearance

The main components of the gimbal include the handle, the three-axis stabilizer, and the phone holder.

The handle has a matte finish, which is not only anti-slip but also gives it a premium look.

The top part is the control area. The grid-shaped round button is the joystick, which can remotely control the direction of the holder up, down, left, and right. You can also directly move the handle to adjust the shooting angle. The button with the red dot is for recording, while the other button is for taking photos. The power button is on the right; long press for 2 seconds to turn on, short press for standby mode.

The left side has an expansion port for connecting a tripod or extension rod, among other devices. The back has a multifunction button and a 3.5mm charging port. Double-click the button to reset, triple-click to switch between front and rear cameras, and long press to lock the angle.

The bottom is the battery compartment, which also has a battery latch inside. It's very practical because even if you forget to push the lock after installing the battery and closing the cover, the battery won't fall out (I am one of those who forget to push the lock).

The phone holder uses a spiral tightening method for securing the phone. By turning the knob on the back of the holder, you can adjust the size to fit phones with widths between 58.6-84.8mm. An iPhone 6 Plus without a case fits perfectly. The inside of the holder is designed with rubber to prevent scratching the metal body of the phone.

After installing the phone, we need to adjust the length of the horizontal axis to balance the gimbal using gravity, reducing power consumption. This helps achieve optimal stability and can extend battery life.

Next, further adjust the phone's balance in the DJI GO app.

The infrared sensor can detect whether a phone is present. If not, the gimbal will not operate.

The highly anticipated highlight is the three-axis stabilizer. Using three motors, it controls the phone's movement by applying a counteracting force to offset unnecessary shakes, making the footage more stable.

Download the DJI GO app on your phone, then slide the power button on the side of the handle down to turn it on. After turning it on, follow the connection prompts in DJI GO to connect your phone to the gimbal via Bluetooth. You can then use the buttons on the front of the gimbal to control the camera and stabilizer.

The DJI GO app is quite feature-rich, offering single-shot, long exposure, and HDR functions for photography.

For videography, it offers time-lapse, motion time-lapse, slow motion (supported by some phones), and screen recording via the DJI GO app.

If you love life, enjoy sports, and like to record every moment, then the DJI Osmo Mobile is definitely your best choice.
