What's your favorite sport? Or what sports events do you often watch?

Football?

Basketball?

Olympics?

World Cup?

......

It seems that these mainstream events always attract everyone's attention. However, here is another list from Cheer Up, featuring some quirky and non-mainstream sports events. Yes, non-mainstream! But for these events, not to brag, just hearing the names will make you think they are very interesting.

10. Cheese Rolling

This event's origins can be traced back to ancient Rome, with a history of over five hundred years. Every year at the end of May,the famous Cheese Rolling competition is held on Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire, England, attracting brave participants from all over the world and thousands of spectators cheering on the sidelines.

Participants chase a 3-kilogram wheel of cheese rolling down a 200-meter, 45-degree slope. The first person to catch the cheese is the champion. The prize for the champion is the giant cheese, while the runner-up and third place receive £10 and £5 respectively. However, very few people manage to catch the cheese; most just roll down the hill for fun.

9. Chess Boxing

Swift as a rabbit, still as a virgin, this phrase might describe this competition. It requires participants to be both physically and mentally strong; they must know both boxing and chess.

The match starts with a chessboard placed in the center of a boxing ring. Participants first play a 4-minute chess game, then the board is removed, and they put on boxing gloves for a 3-minute boxing round. This alternates for a total of 6 chess rounds and 5 boxing rounds. A participant loses if they are knocked out in the ring or checkmated on the board. If neither happens, the winner is determined by boxing points.

8. Muggle Quidditch

Yes, you read that right. This is a real-life version of the game from the 'Harry Potter' novels, now very popular on American campuses. Over 400 universities in the U.S., including Harvard, Princeton, and Yale, have Quidditch teams, and there is even an annual 'Muggle Quidditch' intercollegiate World Cup.

This sport combines elements of handball, dodgeball, and hockey, with rules similar to those in the 'Harry Potter' novels. Players run with broomsticks between their legs, and the broomsticks must not touch the ground. In the novels, catching the Golden Snitch ends the game. In Muggle Quidditch, the Snitch is represented by a person dressed in yellow with a tennis ball tail.

7. Olive Oil Wrestling

This is a traditional Turkish sport held annually. Participants compete shirtless, wearing leather pants, and are covered in olive oil.

In olive oil wrestling, a competitor wins by pinning the opponent's shoulders to the ground or carrying them three steps. However, since both wrestlers are covered in olive oil, this is not easy. Tearing or removing the opponent's leather pants also counts as a win, so participants often try to rip each other's pants, risking exposure. Overall, it's a passionate sport.

6. Christmas Tree Throwing

After Christmas, what to do with the Christmas tree? Both the UK and Germany have held unique Christmas Tree Throwing competitions.

Ina small town in southern Germany,an annual'World Christmas Tree Throwing Championship' is held (such a fancy name). The rules are simple: whoever throws their tree the highest and farthest wins.

5. Toe Wrestling

Cheer Up thinks this competition might be better named 'Toe Arm Wrestling.' The rules are similar to arm wrestling: two participants lock their big toes together and place their feet on a small wooden frame. The first to push the opponent's foot to the edge of the frame wins.

4. Beer Mile

This is a race where participants drink beer while running. They must drink a can of beer at the start, run 400 meters, drink another can, and repeat. The fastest to the finish line wins. To do well, you need to run fast and drink beer quickly.

3. Wife Carrying

This event originated in Finland and has become a global competition promoting fitness and marital bonding. The international 'Wife Carrying' competition requires female participants to weigh at least 108 pounds (about 49 kilograms); otherwise, they must carry extra weight. The course is about 250 meters long, with a water pool and several obstacles. The couple that finishes in the shortest time wins. The world championship winners receive the wife's weight in beer..

2. Bog Snorkeling

Wales, UK, once hosted a unique bog snorkeling competition, essentially swimming in a bog. Swimming in a bog? How? That's not the main point. The colorful diving outfits of the participants add much to the event. Some carry cute frog balloons while struggling through the murky bog; some women wear homemade shell bikinis; others carry toilet-shaped diving gear....

1. High Heel Run

Women's obsession with high heels is unimaginable. In recent years, many major cities worldwide have hosted high heel marathons and running competitions. In a race in Moscow, Russia, the organizers required heels to be at least 9 cm high, and the race distance was 100 meters. The winner received a prize of 50,000 rubles.

However, don't think this is a race only for women. Men running in high heels? Now that's exciting!
