even drug use must talk basics, abbott protein powder professional review

(From a professional review by Codoon user @Dongdaqiao Yu Yanzu)

If you like fitness, you've probably heard of protein powder. We've covered whether you need to drink protein powder for fitness in a previous article, which provides systematic knowledge on the subject. If you're interested, click here.Do you really need protein powder for exercise?

Early spring in March brings renewal to the earth, and Yanzu has set new fitness goals for himself. To ensure timely supplementation, a reliable protein powder is essential. This time, Yanzu chose the international nutrition and health brand, Abbott. After several trials, he has brought us a review and some knowledge on how to use protein powder.

Unboxing and Appearance

Yanzu chose Abbott Whey Protein Powder. Here, it's important to clarify the difference between whey protein powder (WHEY) and mass gainer (often labeled as MASS in English). Whey protein powder is known as the king of proteins and is the choice of most people looking to build muscle. It is high-quality protein that is easily absorbed and comes in a variety of flavors. Mass gainer, on the other hand, is designed for particularly thin individuals. It contains a large amount of carbohydrates, which helps thin fitness enthusiasts gain weight while also increasing muscle mass, leading to a more satisfactory physique.

Abbott, a health and nutrition international brand with over 100 years of history, has products that are renowned worldwide. This is why I chose Abbott. This whey protein powder is originally from the USA, and its packaging is quite attractive.

According to the nutritional information on the Chinese label, the protein content of this whey protein powder is not very high, just meeting the basic threshold for whey protein powder. This indicates that the target audience for this product is relatively beginners, suitable for those with weaker physiques, thinner bodies, and those who have just started strength training.

Upon opening the sealed lid at home, I found a layer of paper separating the small plastic scoop from the protein powder. This design is truly praiseworthy! Previously, I bought a professional brand of protein powder in a 5-pound container, and the small scoop was buried deep in the powder, making it hard to find even with chopsticks. Abbott's design is definitely a boon for human progress!

Only after drinking it will you know

To make the review more comprehensive, Yanzu conducted three taste tests using different solvents and ratios, hoping to provide useful references for everyone.

Before discussing the taste test experience, let's briefly talk about the timing and dosage of protein powder supplementation. The ideal time for fitness enthusiasts to supplement protein is within one hour after strength training. Consuming 20 to 30 grams of protein during this period should yield good results. A close look at the nutritional information will reveal that the protein content in whey protein powder generally ranges from 50% to 80%. Just follow the recommended ratios.

Additionally, it's important to mention the temperature of the solvent. Whether using water or milk, the temperature should not exceed 40°C, as higher temperatures can cause some protein to break down, reducing the effectiveness of the intake. Therefore, it is best to use cold water or cold milk to mix the protein powder, and generally, you should add the water first and then the powder.

First Taste Test

Water: 400ml

Powder: Two scoops (39 grams)

Generally, large containers of protein powder come with a large scoop. The small scoop included with this 2-pound Abbott protein powder is quite delicate. After adding water first and then the powder, and stirring vigorously, I found that some of the protein powder clumped together, indicating that it did not dissolve completely. Despite using all my strength, the water-to-powder ratio was 50ml more than the recommended 350ml.

I chose the vanilla flavor, which tasted very mild and gave a low-key and restrained feeling. Many protein powders have a strong flavor, whether it's vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or other exotic flavors, to mask the fishy taste of the protein powder itself. However, this Abbott protein powder has a very mild flavor, at least the vanilla one, and no fishy taste, which is commendable. As for the solubility issue, I plan to use milk as the solvent for the second taste test.

Second Taste Test

Milk: 400ml

Powder: Two scoops (39 grams)

This time, the only variable was the solvent, which was changed to milk. The solubility was still not very good, with small solid clumps still visible, and some solid residue at the bottom and sides after drinking. Therefore, the suggested solvent-to-solute ratio on the Chinese label may not be very accurate. This will be fully verified in the third taste test. Using milk to mix the vanilla-flavored protein powder didn't make much difference compared to using water, except for a slight milk flavor, making the overall taste smoother.

Third Taste Test

Milk: 400ml

Powder: One and a half scoops (30 grams)

After appropriately reducing the amount of solute, I achieved perfect solubility, with no solid clumps, and it went down smoothly. The taste and flavor are both commendable.

Each taste test was conducted a day apart, and the cup didn't retain much odor, butIt's important to note that after mixing protein powder, you should thoroughly rinse the cup with hot water and leave it uncovered in a ventilated area. Otherwise, you'll find that even the mildest protein powder can't save your cup from a bad smell the next day!

Summary

First, as an international brand, Abbott's whey protein powder is very satisfying in terms of packaging. Many people, like Yanzu, struggle to find the small scoop in protein powder containers. Attention to such details often determines the brand's level, and simple things often make a big difference!

Secondly, the taste and texture of this protein powder show careful craftsmanship and a low-key approach, at least for the vanilla flavor. I'm not sure if other flavors of Abbott protein powder give the same impression, but I personally like the character of this product.

However, the suggested ratio on the Chinese label is a minor flaw (let's assume it's a mistake; maybe it's just right for others). All suggestions are reference values, and there will always be some deviation in actual situations. After a few tries, you'll naturally find the ideal ratio.

If you're new to fitness and at the beginning stage of muscle building, this whey protein powder from the international brand Abbott is worth recommending. Trusting a big brand is never wrong.
