running windbreaker review

The ginkgo leaves have turned yellow.
Beijing's Sanlihe area
has once again become a gathering place for literary youth.
After seeing it all over my social media feed,
I also wanted to visit and experience the literary vibe.

Due to smog and a cold,
I had to cancel my registration for the Codoon online 10k.
This week, I signed up for the online 10k again.
Even though I wasn't feeling my best,
I still managed to complete the run.

Since I've been using the Codoon app for a while,
I decided to get a running jacket from their brand.
Here's a simple review of it.

1. Appearance

Codoon has recently released some running gear. I've always used their running app, so I've been keeping an eye on their products. The first time I saw this running jacket, I liked the color, so I bought it. I also got a women's version for my girlfriend so we can show off together during our weekend runs. (Forgive me for the PDA)

(There is some color difference due to lighting effects)

Of course, there are other colors available. Both men's and women's versions come in black, but I can't pull off black, so I chose blue.

2. Details

Attention to detail shows genuine care, and I really like the details of this running jacket. The most thoughtful detail is on the sleeves.

It has added sleeve cuffs that can cover your hands. I think this helps prevent wind from blowing into the sleeves and also adds a stylish touch. I've tried ski jackets before, and most of them have windproof cuffs for the same purpose.

Another detail is the zipper.

The zipper at the neck has an anti-pinch design. Previous sports jackets often had zippers that could pinch your skin, which was quite painful.

Additionally, the zipper has a windproof flap, which is another thoughtful feature.

The zippered side pockets can hold items, but I recommend not putting anything too heavy in them to avoid feeling weighed down.

There's also an extra windproof layer inside to prevent wind from directly hitting your body while running.

3. Actual Review

The weather was clear and beautiful over the weekend. There were many people on the streets, so I chose a less crowded street for my run to enjoy the scenery.

After a brief stretch, I started my run.

The weather was nice with a light breeze. I started sweating slightly after the first kilometer. The breeze became a bit stronger as I ran, and the northwest wind felt a bit chilly on the less crowded street.

By the third kilometer, I was sweating a lot, and my clothes were getting soaked. Due to the weather and my not fully recovered cold, I felt quite thirsty. So, I recommend hydrating before running in the fall and winter.

The armpits, which tend to sweat a lot, were quite breathable in this running jacket, so I didn't feel stuffy overall.

After a slow 5-kilometer run, my body warmed up, and I maintained a pace of around 5 minutes and 30 seconds per kilometer. The windproof performance was good, and I didn't feel uncomfortable from sweating.

At the 8-kilometer mark, I entered a tough phase but managed to maintain my pace. I aimed to speed up for a better time since it was an online marathon. When I heard my pace was 5 minutes and 12 seconds, I pushed myself to go faster.

However, with one kilometer left, I got a side stitch. Due to my cold and nasal congestion, I struggled to finish the 10k.

After the run, my back was completely soaked, but I didn't feel stuffy. I quickly went home to change. I recommend having enough change of clothes for outdoor runs, as even quick-drying, breathable clothes can get sweaty.

In summary, this windproof jacket is comfortable to wear, has good windproof details, and is breathable. It's relatively cost-effective, and the couple's version is definitely worth showing off.
