a 70 year old veteran completes 13th indoor marathon with 2600 laps
Living in Panjin, Liaoning, 70-year-old Chinese veteran Geng Xiaozhong (Codoon nickname @Marathon Veteran Geng Xiaozhong) has amazed and inspired fellow runners with his actions.Since January of this year, he has completed 13 marathons, all indoors, each covering a distance of 42 kilometers.Although running indoors is challenging due to the short distance, requiring over 2,600 laps to complete a full marathon, he has gained confidence and developed some insights through his runs.

Geng Xiaozhong is not a professional marathon runner and has never received any professional training. He runs daily simply because he loves it.
Geng Xiaozhong joined the Chinese People's Liberation Army in 1968, transferred to the Liaohe Oilfield in 1987, moved to Beijing for work in 2003, and officially retired in 2005. Unwilling to settle for a leisurely life of playing chess and bird-watching, he felt his life could still shine brightly.
In his youth, Geng Xiaozhong won several awards in sports meets at his commune and workplace. When he transferred to a local unit, he completed a 5,000-meter run in 20 minutes, earning second place. Upon retirement, he decided to revive his passion for running for the sake of his health. At 60, he began practicing long-distance running, and this year marks his 10th year of persistence. His goal is to 'run out of Asia and into the world.'

Now, his bedroom is adorned with motivational banners. He says, 'I want to race against time; a thousand years is too long, seize the day.' Since he started long-distance running in 2010, he has completed 153 full marathons. He aims to reach 200 marathons by August this year and to run 100 marathons annually thereafter.
The person he is most grateful to is his current marathon sponsor, Zhou Huizhong, a young man in Xinjiang who runs a clothing business. After reading Geng Xiaozhong's running story online, Zhou Huizhong traveled to Beijing to meet him and offered to cover all his marathon expenses. 'You're 60 and still daring to run marathons! Fine, if you want to run, I'll sponsor you!' Zhou Huizhong said upon their first meeting. Since then, Zhou Huizhong has sponsored him for various city marathons. 'Without him, I'd still be stuck in place. I am grateful for his unconditional help,' Geng Xiaozhong said.
No matter where he runs a marathon now, Geng Xiaozhong always does two things. First, he pins a piece of paper to his chest with two messages: 'A veteran salutes the people of XX (marathon host city)' and 'Zhou Huizhong sponsors Geng Xiaozhong for 100 marathons.' 'This is my way of expressing my feelings: gratitude to the local people and promoting Zhou Huizhong's spirit to spread more positive energy. He didn't ask me to do this; it's my own initiative.'
