In the past, people liked to use English to flaunt themselves, but in recent years, more and more businesses prefer to use Chinese or Chinese characters as their slogans. For example, BYD's Dynasty series Qin, Tang, Song, and Huawei's Shanhaijing series Kirin, Kunpeng, Hongmeng, etc. This time, R2 used 'Wu Ji' to name its new running shoes.
In Taoism, 'Wu Ji' is a description of the 'Dao,' the ultimate principle that everything returns to, meaning infinite and boundless. Applied to running shoes, it signifies returning to the original intent of running, achieving a state of no limits and no end.

I previously wore R2's Equator running shoes, which are designed for long-distance training comfort and are very friendly to novice runners. After recommending them to several friends, they all praised them highly. Therefore, I am quite looking forward to this new model. The Wu Ji focuses on minimalism, lightweight, and cushioning. From the appearance, the shoe body has no other flashy designs except for the white R2 logo on the side, which might be the so-called 'great simplicity'.

When I got this pair of Wu Ji, I was wondering what material the upper was made of. It has a shiny black look and doesn't feel as soft as ordinary knitting. The description revealed that it uses TPU-coated hot-melt yarn integrated flyknit, which improves the support effect of the upper compared to ordinary knitting.

It should be noted that this pair of Wu Ji is a summer running shoe. Besides the multi-layer mesh reinforcement on the toe and heel, the sides of the shoe waist are designed with large mesh for breathability. The one-piece tongue is made of elastic mesh fabric, making it easy to wear.

Many running enthusiasts like R2 because of its sole. This pair of Wu Ji uses a unique U-PROTECT insole design, with a forefoot depth of 5.5mm and a rearfoot depth of 17.5mm, providing all-around protection for various foot shapes and running postures.
Its midsole uses BOUNDFOAM lightweight cushioning, combined with multi-layer large grooves and horizontal fine groove structures, which alleviate impact while providing rebound.

The new honeycomb pattern ergonomic outsole uses high-quality anti-slip and wear-resistant rubber, coping with different conditions of complex road surfaces, providing anti-slip and grip capabilities.

This pair of Wu Ji is lightweight and simplified, with a single shoe weighing around 200 grams, making it indeed very light on the feet. The shoe shape is wide in the front and narrow in the back, allowing enough space for the toes to relax during running, preventing toe squeezing.

In some details, the designer's thoughtfulness is evident. For example, the instep area uses high-elastic comfortable fabric, like wearing socks, which is friendly to runners with high insteps. The inner lining of the heel uses soft ultra-fine velvet, with high-density foam lining, likely alleviating many runners' concerns about heel chafing. The R2 brand logo features 3M reflective silver hot-cut technology, and the 'Wu Ji' characters on the heel pull tab also use 3M reflection, ensuring safety for night running while making it easy to put on and take off.

I also really like the minimalist design of this pair of Wu Ji, and the wrapping feeling is good, making it versatile for daily wear. As for improvements, since this pair of Wu Ji is a lightweight running shoe, the sole could use even lighter materials. While focusing on the 'stepping on poop' feeling for novice runners, I hope it can provide better energy return. I recommend this pair of running shoes for short-distance slow runs within ten kilometers, suitable for indoor fitness, plastic tracks, and park paths. Great simplicity, Wu Ji can be followed; run your own path, and you will eventually gain.
