Running is currently a popular form of physical exercise. To run long distances without easily getting injured, in addition to gradual scientific training and strong muscle support, a pair of comfortable running shoes is equally important.
Next, we introduce a pair of lightweight cushioning running shoes. These shoes cleverly combine the seemingly irreconcilable elements of lightness and cushioning. As an entry-level jogging shoe for daily running training, it aims to help us rediscover the pure joy of running.
Unboxing
There is no overly fancy design. The gold R2 logo represents the brand, and the letters LSD on the toe indicate its suitability for long-distance jogging. The red heat-sealed mesh upper enhances support while ensuring overall breathability, and also improves the durability and wrap of the shoe.
The thin, lightweight mesh tongue meets the needs for lightness and comfort, without pressing on the instep and providing breathability. The flat laces and the lace hole in the center of the tongue effectively prevent the tongue from shifting.
In addition to the gold logo, the heel has a reflective pull tab, and the built-in TPU significantly enhances the stability and wrap of the heel. Those accustomed to heel striking will noticeably feel the heel lock.
The R2 Equator LSD features a wide last design, suitable for the front-wide, rear-narrow foot shape of Asians. The spacious toe box frees the toes, reducing the likelihood of black toenails and blisters.
The midsole of the R2 Equator LSD running shoes uses a special BOUNDFOAM formula, with a maximum thickness of 33.5mm. Compared to traditional EVA midsoles, these shoes offer better cushioning and rebound.
There are four cushioning grooves on each side of the midsole, inspired by tire treads, which effectively alleviate the impact on the feet when landing and provide comfortable rebound.
The R2 Equator midsole has a small differential in thickness between the front and rear. The R2 uses a boat-shaped rolling structure to make the transition from heel to forefoot smoother, reducing energy loss and effectively improving running pace.
The new honeycomb tread outsole design features rubber only in the forefoot and heel areas, ensuring durability and slip resistance while meeting the overall lightweight design requirements of running shoes. The wide groove design of the outsole enhances the continuity of the running experience.
Running Test
Despite its seemingly 'heavyweight' appearance, the R2 Equator feels anything but bulky when worn, even giving a sense of 'lightness.' Comfort and good breathability are the first impressions upon wearing these shoes.
How is the cushioning? In a word, it combines lightness and cushioning. As mentioned earlier, from the shoe's appearance, especially the thick midsole, you might think these shoes are heavy, but they actually feel 'light.' As for the cushioning effect, whether jogging or speed training, you can clearly feel the rebound and feedback from the midsole.
The upper of the R2 Equator has moderate elasticity, providing uniform wrapping. The forefoot space is ample and comfortable, and the side support is excellent. While running, you will feel the upper fitting snugly to your foot, with sufficient support on both sides. The midsole offers enough feedback and cushioning, and the boat-shaped rolling structure makes the running feel smoother and more stable.
Summary
The positioning of the R2 Equator LSD running shoes can be felt from the curvature of the sole, the shape of the upper, and the design language of the midsole. So, who are these shoes suitable for? I believe they are ideal for marathon runners or speed runners for daily aerobic long-distance training or tempo runs. Of course, they are also perfectly suitable for interval training.
