Throughout the year, in spring, summer, autumn, and winter, we, who share the same hobby, run in Beiling Park, where the scenery changes daily yet remains familiar.

 

After turning 40, as I aged, my body started showing warning signs. I developed urticaria, and despite seeing both traditional Chinese and Western doctors, the symptoms persisted. Following the doctor's advice to exercise more and boost my immune system, I chose the most accessible sport—running. This is where the story begins...

 

Over five years, I gradually increased my distance from 1 kilometer to 3 kilometers, then 5 kilometers, and eventually to 10 kilometers. From a novice runner to completing the Shenyang Marathon in 3 hours and 35 minutes, every step was hard-earned. I know that no effort was wasted; running has given me perseverance and discipline, and the sweat I shed has brought an indescribable sense of accomplishment.

 

Now, I stick to a routine of leaving the house at 5 AM to run until 7 AM. This ensures two hours of training and keeps me energized for the day. Are there times when I don't want to get up? Of course, but thinking about how the day would feel wasted if I didn't get up motivates me to run for my health.

 


Before joining the running group, I was a novice runner, always running alone without understanding professional knowledge or warm-up exercises. It was slow and grueling at first. After joining the running community, I often heard, 'One can run faster alone, but a group can run farther.' So, in 2015, I tried joining a running group, starting a new chapter in my running journey.

 

First, I want to introduce our group leader, Shang Xiaojun. Every time we met during morning runs, he would greet me and cheer me on. Gradually, I learned about his running group and was inspired by his positive energy, so I decided to join this 'big family' of runners.

 

Our leader has been running continuously for over 2000 days, even in typhoons and rain, holding an umbrella. His perseverance inspires every member of our group. Because of him, our running group has become more cohesive and united!

 

In the running group, I met runners from all over the country. They taught me professional running skills and knowledge, and we often met for morning runs. By gradually increasing my mileage and following the pace of experienced runners, I laid the foundation for a full marathon with a monthly mileage of 300+ kilometers. My cardiovascular fitness improved significantly. Completing my first marathon in 3 hours and 35 minutes was something I never dared to dream of, but persistence proved that any goal can be achieved.

 

Running is no longer a solitary activity for me. Now, every run is filled with encouragement and support from others. Every step I take is powered by the strength of the team. We exchange ideas, motivate each other, and improve together. This is the charm of being part of a group!  


 

Anyone who has run a marathon knows that after 30 kilometers, the distance becomes extremely grueling, requiring strong willpower to keep moving forward. Whenever I face difficulties at work or in life, I recall the persistence needed after 30 kilometers in a marathon and remind myself that I can overcome any challenge.

 

Running not only enhances my work potential but also spreads my energy to those around me.

 

In the past, when faced with difficult tasks or deadlines, I would make excuses and leave a bad impression on colleagues and leaders. Since I started running, I have become more proactive and efficient at work.

 

In daily life, my running routine has influenced my husband. He used to sleep in and avoid exercise, but now, inspired by me, he has joined the morning running crowd. Since he started running, his 'three highs' have improved, and he looks more energetic and confident. Friends say he seems like a different person.

 

In the future, regardless of the heat or cold, I will continue to strive for my goals. I will work hard for a 3:30 marathon, for the Beijing Marathon, and for the chance to sing the national anthem with fellow runners at Tiananmen Square!
