over 15000 km of running 2 years without breaks
In the past, I never ran, nor was I particularly fond of exercise. I never imagined that one day I would be associated with the word 'marathon.'
I remember my journey with exercise began because my company had a 'Hiking Club' that often organized group hikes. On the evening of December 31, 2015, my colleagues organized a New Year's Eve run. I joined out of curiosity, and unexpectedly, it became an unstoppable habit, leading me down the 'path of no return' in sports.
At first, I ran sporadically and somewhat casually, only thinking about running when I had the time. After about six months, I realized I wasn't doing it well. Given my 'do it well or not at all' personality, I decided from July 30, 2016, to run every day without interruption. This strong will naturally extended to my running routine. To date, I have accumulated 15,345 kilometers, but this is far from the end. The number will continue to grow with my relentless steps.
After I started running, people often asked me how I managed to keep going despite the weather. Initially, I had thoughts of slacking off, especially when I felt tired or busy with work. But over time, I grew to love running, and it became a habit. When running becomes a habit, it's no longer about 'how to overcome not wanting to run,' but rather 'how to find time to run despite being busy.' The perspective has shifted. Now, as long as I'm willing, anywhere can be my playground.
In my life, running has transformed into an inner 'persistence.' When making decisions, I naturally feel a sense of 'I can do this.' I used to be addicted to smoking, going through two to three packs a day for over twenty years. Anyone who has tried to quit smoking knows how hard it is to stick with it. Influenced by running, I decided to quit smoking at the end of last year and have managed to stay smoke-free for eight months now. If there's a regret about running, it's that I haven't yet completed a full marathon. Despite my extensive running mileage, I might attempt it in the future to challenge a stronger version of myself.
To me, running is a very personal activity. You reserve this time each day for self-reflection, burning away all negative emotions, and facing the world with a positive mindset. After learning to control yourself, you begin to reconcile with yourself. Each time you persist in running, you challenge yourself, pushing your limits to become stronger than before.
