In 2018, he participated in more than 20 full marathon events, with his footsteps covering the great rivers and mountains of the country. These are all labels exclusive to Wu Yongfu. Additionally, Wu Yongfu is known for three 'mosts': he started long-distance running the latest among the Meishuai Running Group members, participated in the most competitions, and won the most awards.


Approaching 50 years old, Wu Yongfu loves mountain climbing and has persistently climbed Cangu Tuo in Yixian County every week for 16 years, regardless of the weather! He takes a walk in Baoding Botanical Garden every morning and often encounters people running. At that time, 'running' seemed an unattainable thing to him, and he genuinely envied the running strides of others.

In August 2017, Wu Yongfu joined the Baoding Meishuai Running Group. By chance, some running friends in the botanical garden invited him to run together. Wu Yongfu mustered up the courage and gladly went. Experienced runners told him to start slow and not to focus on speed. Even so, Wu Yongfu could only manage three to four kilometers at a seven-minute pace before feeling dizzy, cramping, nauseous, and wanting to vomit.

Should he give up because it was hard? Wu Yongfu said that 'giving up' is not in his dictionary. He often says, 'Either don't do it, or if you do, you must persist.' From then on, he couldn't stop. He insisted on running every day, enjoying the exhilarating pleasure it brought. On the 48th day of starting to run, he accompanied a legendary figure in the Baoding running circle, Brother Liu, to run an ultramarathon in Beijing Olympic Park, completing his first full marathon in 4 hours and 2 minutes.


For Wu Yongfu, 2018 was a year of hard work, sweat, and abundant harvest. Starting from the Chengdu Dujiangyan Double Heritage Marathon on March 18 to the Shenzhen Marathon on December 16, Wu Yongfu completed 3 half marathons, 20 full marathons, and 5 trail races, including 50km, 100km, and 168km trail races, totaling 28 races in less than 9 months, averaging 3.1 races per month.

Despite the intensity, for a middle-aged man nearing fifty, it was a tiring yet happy experience. 'Tired, definitely tired, the body is tired, but the mood is happy. The process of running is tough, but the rewards after running are enjoyable. Before running, my health indicators were high during annual check-ups. After running for half a year, all health indicators were normal. Having a healthy body and a happy mood is the greatest reward for my hard work.'


In June this year, Wu Yongfu was fortunate to participate in the 'Da Wu Chao Tai' International Elite 70km Trail Race held in Wutai Mountain, Shanxi. Wu Yongfu told reporters that the qualifications for the elite race were very stringent, and the long-distance mountain conditions were very challenging. Out of nearly 800 people who met the registration conditions, only 200 could participate in the race. But with his five trail performances last year, Wu Yongfu finally got the chance to participate. He said, 'Never mind the results, being able to participate in such a high-level race is an amazing thing.'
