Harboring ambitions for the official pacer for a long time, planting the seeds of becoming one.
At every marathon race, there's always a group of flamboyantly dressed, deliberately cute individuals wearing pace balloons or flags. Annoyingly, they always stand in the front row of each pacing group, posing for photos while others look on enviously. However, they have strict requirements and missions, playing a crucial role on the racecourse.
Marathon pacers, commonly known as 'rabbits,' run at a nearly constant speed throughout the race according to a set finish time, serving as moving reference points for participants.
Most runners are keen on 'catching the rabbit,' setting goals within their capabilities to catch up with or follow the rabbit they aim to catch, thereby achieving their desired race results, or even a personal best (PB).
For the rabbit, as an official pacer, it's important to understand their responsibilities and tasks. Rabbits primarily serve and assist, requiring teamwork and adherence to standards such as attire, language, and service. They must follow management guidelines. Rabbits are special runners, representing the event's image to some extent.
Fate with the 'rabbit,' first experience as an official pacer.
In the past two years, marathon events have surged, and I've participated in many races, achieving a half-marathon PB of 1:27 and a full marathon PB of 3:11. For someone with severe laziness and a monthly mileage of only around 100, it's decent (self-proclaimed as a mediocre runner, still not satisfied). My single-minded pursuit of speed seems to have made me miss out on many wonderful people and experiences.
Receiving a call from the West Taihu event committee, I was as happy as a 300-pound person, feeling both excited and nervous. I quickly crammed knowledge to prepare well before the race.
In ancient times, scholars always had a teacher, who imparted knowledge and resolved doubts.
With the guidance and support of an experienced 'driver' like Uncle Liu, my debut as a rabbit was completed with a three-second difference, finishing the 1:45 rabbit task in 1:45:03.
Uncle Liu taught me through his experience and actions how to be a qualified and excellent rabbit. One should be responsible, friendly, and inspiring; lovingly provide water and supplies to companions and fellow runners; control the pace comprehensively and be a good guide; lead the runners following us to finish safely.
Surpassing the master, the rabbit gives back.
Having served as a private pacer and companion runner in many races, I truly graduated as a rabbit last week on the Lishui Mountain Marathon course, where my abilities were tested.
Without the guidance of an experienced 'driver,' the mountainous terrain was rugged and the climbs continuous. On such a challenging course, my companions and I finished the 1:45 task witha one-second difference.Completed the 1:45 task.
To enhance and improve my skills, I attended Red Cross first aid training on weekends, learning various first aid and bandaging techniques, especially CPR. The golden four minutes for a sudden cardiac arrest runner can play a crucial role in saving lives.

Traveling through racecourses, the old ox plays the cute rabbit.
Graduating as the first rabbit at the Changzhou West Taihu Marathon, I believe I have good pacing abilities and a strong influence. Most importantly, I'm quite flamboyant, handling the 1:45 official rabbit role with ease, contributing my modest efforts to various events.
My first time participating in a race as a first aid rabbit, in the 3:30-3:45 range, I didn't encounter any runners needing help throughout the race. I hope it stays that way, allowing me to 'slack off,' because it means everyone finished healthily and safely.
Marathon season is here, seeking interactions and shoulder taps.
With the dense schedule of events in the second half of the year, as a marathon enthusiast, I've already exhausted my holidays until next year...
Priority for the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Shanghai free shipping area, starting with Nanjing's seven major marathons (Nanjing Marathon, Xianlin Marathon, Pukou Women's Marathon, Liuhe Bamboo Marathon, Lishui Mountain Marathon, Spring Niushou Marathon, Gaochun Slow Marathon). Without leaving Nanjing, there are seven marathons to run, likely requiring full attendance, making it hard to be in multiple places at once.
Everyone is like a journey, a fleeting passerby. Some people you meet and forget; some you brush past and inevitably look back. For the official rabbit tasks in the second half of the year, seeking interactions, shoulder taps, and surpassing.
I'm honored by the trust and recognition of various organizing committees. I hope to contribute to the events with stable pacing, serving and helping fellow runners, and most importantly, spreading the joy and fun of running. Runner gatherings are just an excuse to run a marathon...
There are countless types of people in the world; don't chase after fleeting clouds. If someone is like a rainbow, you'll know when you meet them. If we meet at the starting line, on the course, or at the finish line, please interact with 'cow dung.' 'Cow dung' will take a photo with you with the most brilliant (and silly) smile, capturing wonderful moments.
Meeting you, in the best time of my life.(Please drink this cheesy motivational soup).
