As the most prominent team in recent years' Tour de France, the British Team Sky, which boasts the formidable Chris Froome, who has won four Tour de France titles and one Vuelta a España title, has always been a focal point in major WorldTour races. Although top riders like Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas did not participate in this year's Gree-Tour of Guangxi, and Team Sky's overall performance among the 18 teams was not outstanding, Bass Cat still gathered valuable information for everyone—the detailed configuration of Team Sky's luxurious Pinarello racing bikes revealed!
In 2017, Team Sky's group racing bikes uniformly used the latest model of Pinarello's Dogma F10 frame. The matte black paint with blue and white intermittent stripes gives a visual impact of speeding through the cosmic sky, echoing the team's name 'Sky.' The bike features highly characteristic aerodynamic design, especially the signature 'scimitar' style front fork, making the Pinarello Dogma F10 the most contemporary model among Italian road bikes today.
The frame essentially retains the design of the previous generation Pinarello Dogma F8 and has made more practical improvements to the down tube—adding charging and control slots for the electronic shifting system, allowing the electronic shift battery box to be housed inside the frame, making the overall appearance of the bike more streamlined and tidy.
Although most top teams using Shimano components have updated to the brand's latest Dura-Ace R9100 series drivetrain/electronic shifting components, Team Sky's Pinarello was the first top road bike to be equipped with this series when it was first launched. Both in black and highly streamlined, the Dura-Ace R9100 components perfectly match the Team Sky version of the Pinarello Dogma F10.
However, due to personal habits, Tour de France champion Chris Froome uses O.symetric brand double oval chainrings instead of the original DA9100 chainrings.
Every component of the Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 series installed on the Team Sky version of the F10 can be said to blend seamlessly.
The wheels also use the Shimano Dura-Ace R9100 series tubular wheelset, available in C40 (40mm rim height) and C60 (60mm rim height) versions, respectively for all-around and flat stage use. For tires, Team Sky uniformly uses the German Continental Competition ProLtd tubular tires.
The handlebar set also comes from Shimano's PRO brand, model PRO Vibe Team Sky—the blue and black color scheme marks the exclusive identity of Team Sky. Both the handlebar and stem are made of carbon fiber to ensure weight and stiffness, while the stem cap is made of aluminum alloy, increasing strength in that area and making the front end look more dazzling.
The team uniformly uses K-Edge handlebar-mounted computer mounts to secure the power meter head units.
Team Sky's water bottles and bottle cages are also produced by the Italian brand Elite, with the bottle cage model being Custom Race Plus. The sky-blue color of the bottle on the cage allows riders to feel a 'cool breeze from the sky' during the hot race.
In professional road cycling races, each rider usually chooses a saddle that suits their riding habits and comfort. The rider in the picture below has equipped their 'warhorse' with a Fizik Aliante saddle.
Another rider has chosen a Specialized Body Geometry saddle and covered the 'Specialized' logo on the saddle's tail with tape. It seems that riders sometimes 'secretly' use equipment from competing brands to find the most suitable parts for themselves.
