Three years of marathon participation have dulled my initial fervor for marathons. I used to sign up for every race and run every marathon I could find. But after seeing the endless sea of people at the starting line, my passion for marathons has burned down to mere embers.


Although I kept running out of habit, when a friend invited me to try a triathlon, I was as excited as Columbus discovering the New World! A triathlon? How does it work? Is it fun? Isn't that for the pros? I can't swim! I don't have a bike! Running is the only thing I can manage! After I babbled on, my friend slowly exhaled a smoke ring and said, 'Not hard!' I realized I had found a new love.


Seeing that I was hooked, my friend suggested we start with a relay race. We would find someone who could swim, he would handle the cycling, and I would take care of the running.




A month later, we completed the Shanghu Triathlon relay. Two months after that, I learned to swim (who knows what I went through in those two months! Even my hiccups smelled like disinfectant!). Six months later, I bought a bike. A year later, I completed the 2017 Wujiang Standard Triathlon in 2 hours and 45 minutes, finishing eighth in my age group. I had become a true triathlete.

Let's talk about triathlons. Simply put, it's swimming, cycling, and running. There are various distance standards: a mini triathlon is 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling, and 5 kilometers of running; the standard or Olympic distance is 1500 meters of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling, and 10 kilometers of running; a half Ironman is 1900 meters of swimming, 90 kilometers of cycling, and 21 kilometers of running; and a full Ironman is 3.8 kilometers of swimming, 180 kilometers of cycling, and 42 kilometers of running. There are many other distances and difficulty levels, but I won't go into all of them. Triathlons require a lot more gear than marathons, and the training is more complex, involving swimming, cycling, running, and various transition drills. It's a great sport for building discipline, resilience, and physical fitness, but it can be grueling. To do well, you need to put in some effort, but even with simple gear, you can still have fun!

I won't go into the swimming and cycling gear today. Instead, I'll introduce the Asics Noosa FF, the twelfth generation of triathlon running shoes. Why do you need triathlon shoes? Because it's inconvenient to carry road cycling shoes during brick workouts (there's nowhere to store them), and a pair of triathlon shoes can handle both cycling and running during brick workouts and short-distance triathlons.



The 2017 Asics Noosa FF has been fully upgraded from previous versions, featuring a new design and midsole. The flashy, gaudy look of previous generations has been replaced with a more subdued appearance.

The new design of the Asics Noosa ditches the iconic track logo, with the Asics logo only appearing on the tongue, the right shoe's mesh, and the heel. The shoe features the latest FlyteFoam midsole technology, which enhances lightness and rebound, making it more comfortable to wear. The Dynamic Duomax structure disperses ground impact during landing, guiding the center of gravity to the forefoot for efficient and stable running.

The AIR MESH upper provides lightweight breathability, and the forefoot outsole, made with a mix of rice husks and other materials, offers excellent grip on wet surfaces, though it's not as good on dry surfaces. The widened tongue has anti-slip printing, and the heel features a quick-pull leather tab for easy transitions in the transition zone.


The green area of the outsole features embossed Noosa lettering and icons for swimming, cycling, and running. The heel counter is firm and supportive, the insole is comfortable and breathable, and the inner mesh lining wraps the foot comfortably. Even without socks, there's no discomfort, which is crucial for quick transitions after swimming.
The Asics Noosa performs impressively during cycling. The forefoot's anti-slip material, mixed with rice husks, provides strong friction, preventing foot slippage during pedaling and allowing better control of cycling posture (unlike regular running shoes, which can slip). The firm heel counter offers a locked-in feel, preventing foot deformation during pedaling. The AIR MESH upper is breathable and quickly dries after swimming, keeping your feet dry and comfortable during the ride.


When transitioning from cycling to running, your legs feel heavy, and your running form changes. The supportive outsole of the Asics Noosa helps correct your running form, allowing you to quickly return to a normal running gait.
The Noosa is also great for regular running training. It's part of the racing series, with lightweight, breathable properties, a supportive heel, and moderate cushioning. I've run a total of 200 kilometers in these Asics Noosa shoes and wore them to complete the 2017 Wujiang Triathlon, finishing in 2 hours and 45 minutes. The Asics Noosa played a significant role in my strong running performance!
