In the year 2019 AD, running clubs were in fierce competition, with various groups vying for dominance. Each running club had its own insights and opinions on management based on their capabilities. Many clubs established their own points management rules, and a simple keyword search online would reveal numerous management details released by different clubs.

Why do so many running clubs care about points management settings?

What is the significance of setting points for running clubs?

How should a running club set up its points management rules?

What kind of management tools can help a running club manage efficiently, quickly, and scientifically?

To address the previous three questions, we had brief communications with several excellent running club leaders. We learned that, as a manager of a running club,the leader needs to track members' participation in daily activities and periodically motivate active members to enhance their sense of honor and belonging. To ensure fair, just, and transparent motivation, the club needs a complete and standardized points system as a benchmark.This highlights the significance and importance of points management in running clubs.

The rules and uses of points management vary. Some clubs use points to select active members for monthly awards, others use points to distribute encouragement gear, and some allocate benefits based on points. We categorize these uses into four main types:

1Exchanging for various sports equipment and items (such as waist packs, headbands, etc.);

2Exchanging for free entry slots in various competitions (marathons, trail races, etc.);

3Priority access to event participation slots (sponsored and other large events);

4Other matters requiring points.

Now that we understand the importance and uses of points management, how can we set reasonable points acquisition requirements?

Codoon has compiled points setting rules from various running clubs for reference,

which can be adapted to the specific circumstances of each club.

[Member Points Acquisition Suggestions]

1Participating in daily club activities earns 1 point.

Registering for club activities, taking a group photo during the event, and signing in as requiredearns 1 point (points are awarded only if registration, sign-in, and group photo are all completed).

2Wearing club attire during activities earns 1 point.

Wearing club attire to participate in activities is seen as endorsing the club culture and contributing to its promotion, earning an additional 1 point on top of the first point.

3Registering for club activity logistics earns 5-20 points.

For each club activity, 1-2 logistics personnel can be recruited. Members who sign up for logistics, transport supplies to the designated location, earn 10 points each time. Managing equipment, distributing and collecting supplies, and assisting with photography also earn 10 points each time. Serving as logistics volunteers for large events earns 20 points each time, with points adjusted based on performance.

4Registering as a club photographer earns 20 points.

For each activity, members who sign up, sign in, and take photos (meeting promotional needs) earn 20 points. Points are adjusted based on photo quality.

5Registering as a club coach earns 20 points.

Serving as a coach or pacer, organizing warm-ups and stretches, earns 20 points each time. Pacers meeting the target pace earn 5 points, while those who do not meet the target earn 2 points.

6Planning and organizing themed activities earns 10-30 points.

Members with planning skills can organize themed activities, earning 10-30 points based on the activity's success (exceptional activities can earn up to 50 points).

7Participating in marathon races earns 5-20 points.

Completing a marathon in club attire earns 5 points per race, carrying the club flag earns 10 points, and being featured on TV earns 5-20 points based on the coverage (with proof). Group photos with club elements posted on social media earn 5 points.

8Submitting articles to the club's public account earns 5-20 points.

For submissions to the club's public account:

(1) Submissions earn 5 points per article;

(2) Published submissions earn 10 points per article;

(3) Published submissions on other platforms earn 20 points per article.

9Participating in group purchases or shopping earns 1-50 points.

For each group purchase: participating through the club earns 1 point for every 50 yuan spent, with no upper limit (verified at the end of each month with proof).

10Referring new members earns 1-2 points.

Referring new members to join the club:

(1)Referring new members to register as Codoon club members, earning 3 points if they do not participate in activities that month,

(2)Referring new members to register as Codoon club members, earning 5 points if they participate in at least one activity that month (based on registration, sign-in, and group photo).

11Special contributions earn 1-50 points.

Contributing to the club's welfare, securing sponsorships, or donating cash, materials, or other contributions earn 1-50 points based on the situation.

[Member Points Deduction Items]

1Posting advertisements or non-club-related activity information without permission results in a 5-point deduction per instance;

2Not following activity arrangements or engaging in dangerous behavior during activities results in a 5-point deduction per instance (e.g., overtraining).

3Other violations of club rules that negatively impact the club result in discretionary point deductions.

We learned that many club leaders used to maintain their own points management spreadsheets, scoring and recording each activity. However, this required significant time and effort for verification and registration. Some leaders even abandoned the points management system due to limited energy.

The following image shows the points statistics for a club's activities in March 2018. The statistics are comprehensive but require a lot of time for verification and registration. The leader has always hoped for a tool to help manage the club's points.
