Preface
Every year, when a new Honor phone is released, a series of wristbands are also launched. While the wristbands from the neighboring brand have only reached the third generation, the Honor wristbands have already reached the fourth generation. In fact, Honor releases several wristbands each year, but unfortunately, they lack continuity. Examples include the Honor Play Wristband, Honor Play Wristband A1 (with UV monitoring), Honor Play Wristband A2, Honor Wristband ZERO, and Honor Wristband 3 (with and without GPS versions). The launch prices of these wristbands are relatively high compared to competitors, until the appearance of the 99 yuan Honor Wristband 4 this year.

<p>
In 2018, with the release of the Honor 8X phone, the Honor Wristband 4 also appeared, available in a 99 yuan Running version and a 199 yuan large-screen version (the standard version without NFC is 199 yuan, and the NFC version is 249 yuan).

<p>
Next, let's take a look at the performance of the 99 yuan Running version wristband.

<p>
The slogan for the Honor Wristband 4 Running is 'Make your running posture more professional,' which reveals the core function of the wristband.
</p>

<p>
The back of the packaging box lists the detailed functions and usage methods of the wristband.
</p><p><br/></p>
<p>
The biggest highlight of this wristband is that it can be worn on running shoes. Based on a six-axis sensor and Honor's step-counting algorithm, it monitors seven running data points (landing method, landing impact, eversion amplitude, swing angle, stride length, step frequency, and ground contact time) and is supported by technical expertise from national professional sports research institutions. It scientifically interprets running posture parameters and provides exercise suggestions.

<p>
The wristband comes in five two-tone strap colors, but only two colors, 'Reckless Red' and 'Grass Green,' were available at launch. This article showcases the 'Reckless Red' strap.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F1348706x41tEROW8hLMxQiOCmw!640m0?generation=1715753903872078&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
From left to right, there are the shoe buckle, wristband main body, strap, and charging base.
</p><p><br/></p>
<p>
At first glance, the wristband gives a delicate and refined impression, looking very comfortable.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F1903212xEusFvrWS3TNZh06vUu!640m0?generation=1715753904769051&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
The back of the wristband main body does not have a heart rate monitoring module; the Honor Wristband 4 Running does not support heart rate monitoring.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F1197828xCWYtFRKbhX9IbZyamu!640m0?generation=1715753905798382&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
There are metal contacts on the shoe buckle. When the wristband main body is installed, the wristband will recognize it and enter the shoe-wearing mode.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F927704xi9qL3eFtS5ISe2xJHM!640m0?generation=1715753907021973&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
The strap is made of skin-friendly TPU material, which feels comfortable. It has a buckle design to prevent accidental detachment. Additionally, the wristband main body and strap fit very tightly, making it difficult to detach during intense exercise. The strap is also relatively thin and has many hollowed-out ventilation holes to improve breathability.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F1286075xtR0ng9mTUtPsJ7pP3P!640m0?generation=1715753908243970&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
The wristband's charging base can be plugged into any USB port to charge the wristband, which is quite convenient. The wristband has a battery capacity of 77mAh, with a theoretical standby time of 20 days.
</p>
<p>
After 11 days of actual use, 40% of the battery remained, which is close to the official description.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F1234225x7AkyHkizTEXTAxpsk2!640m0?generation=1715753910234264&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
The wristband is equipped with a 0.5-inch OLED screen (11.244mm*6.124mm), with a resolution of 48px * 48px. Below the screen is a circular touch area, which allows switching between function pages through tapping and long pressing. For example, a single tap switches between different information interfaces, while a long press enters running mode.

<p>
The wristband screen is clearly visible under sunlight and supports wrist-raising to wake the screen. The biggest drawback is that the screen is too small, limiting the amount of displayed content. When connected to the app, notifications are only shown as small icons, making it difficult to see specific content intuitively.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F1406571xPYROTnYKc8HQRhEDxM!640m0?generation=1715753912151495&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
Wearing it on the wrist, the wristband feels more slender, with a delicate and exquisite beauty.
</p>
<p>
When the wristband is successfully connected to the app, it has a 'find phone' function. Clicking 'find phone' on the wristband will make the phone ring. We often see phones being used to find other devices, but seeing a device used to find a phone was a pleasant surprise.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F570759x9jGNeLHA7jwPOJxgyj!640m0?generation=1715753915571212&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
To connect the Honor Wristband, you must install the 'Health' app. You will discover that Huawei has indeed produced many wristbands.
</p><p><br/></p>
<p>
After successfully pairing the wristband, you can choose either wrist mode or shoe mode. The bound wristband interface differs between the two modes because shoe mode does not support message notifications, wrist-raising to wake the screen, or sedentary reminders.
</p><p><br/></p>
<p>
Additionally, the wristband can monitor and record steps and sleep status, and this data can be viewed in the app.<b>The Honor Wristband 4 Running does not support heart rate monitoring</b>These functions are similar to most wristbands, so they won't be elaborated on here. Let's talk about the running monitoring function.
</p>
<p>

<p style="text-align: center;">
<b style=""><font color="#00b050" style="" size="3">Running Posture Monitoring</font></b>
</p>
<p><br/></p><p>
<b>Is running posture important?</b>
</p>
<p>
You might think that running is simply about moving your legs forward, but you would be wrong. In the medical field, there's a saying that discussing toxicity without considering dosage is irresponsible. Similarly, in running, discussing running without considering speed or distance is not running but walking. At a certain speed and distance, incorrect running posture not only reduces efficiency, making you run slower and feel more tired, but it can also lead to injuries. Therefore, understanding your running posture is quite meaningful.
</p>
<p>
How can you understand your running posture? Generally, there are two methods:
</p>
<p>
1. Recording your running posture through video, then analyzing it in slow motion (requires experienced assistance).
</p>
<p>
2. Analyzing data provided by running sensors.
</p>
<p>
<br/>
</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F888629xu9KquREAXmhWEl0g3e!640m0?generation=1715753917412000&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
These are the two running monitors I know of. On the left is Garmin's Running Dynamics Pod, and on the right is the smart chip inside Codoon's smart running shoes. The former needs to be used with a Garmin sports watch, while the latter needs to be used with Codoon running shoes.
</p>

<p>
These are two sets of data I tested. On the left is a 100-meter sprint, and on the right is a 1km sprint. Whether it's short distance or long distance, the Honor Wristband Running can recognize it well. It can be seen that during the fastest running (100 meters), forefoot landing is the main landing method; although the 1km run is also relatively fast, forefoot landing is not as frequent, and the running is done with the habitual heel landing method.
</p>

<p><br/></p><p>
As I mentioned in the video, the wristband is more suitable for monitoring short-distance running data. Firstly, the short duration makes the data easier to analyze; secondly, changes in running posture are more suitable for practice over short distances.
</p>
<p>
The Honor Wristband 4 Running does not support heart rate monitoring, possibly because the wristband is worn on the running shoes, making heart rate monitoring unnecessary. In fact, I always wear it on my shoes and rarely on my wrist. However, in shoe mode, the app can connect to two Huawei wearable devices: one for recording running posture and one for recording heart rate (this is according to the official description, but I have not tested it).
</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">
<b style=""><font color="#00b050" style="" size="3">Summary</font></b></p>

</p><p><a href="javascript:void(0)"><img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/download/storage/v1/b/runboxapp-web-online.appspot.com/o/public%2F5671%2F2207908xlUjFGyAqPwrUINtmQE!640m0?generation=1715753929840333&alt=media" style="width:100%"/></a><br/></p>
<p>
The strength of the Honor Wristband Running lies in its running posture analysis. For the functions of ordinary wristbands, it is somewhat weak. For those who want to understand and improve their running posture, the Honor Wristband 4 Running is the most economical solution.
</p>
<p><br/></p><p>
The only drawback I found is that the landscape data analysis does not include 'eversion amplitude' and 'swing angle' data. These are also crucial data points because they can show when the leg swing amplitude is not high enough, allowing for targeted practice.
</p>
<p><br/></p><p>
Other issues, such as the small screen and lack of heart rate monitoring, are not a big deal because the Honor Wristband 4 is still available for purchase.</p>
