Si Guosong was a 'free-range' child from a young age. Born in 1981, he grew up in rural Hubei, accustomed to climbing mountains and wading through rivers barefoot, often running for an entire day. Winters in Hubei are very cold, with temperatures often hovering around zero degrees. But no matter how cold it got, Si Guosong only needed two pieces of clothing, at most adding a sweater, and had excellent immunity. 'I was skinny since childhood, but I was not afraid of the cold and rarely got sick.'


For Si Guosong, running seems to be a natural instinct.


After the 2008 Olympics, at the age of 27, he was inspired by the enthusiastic sports atmosphere around him and began to try running. His running volume quickly increased from a few laps of jogging to 15 km, from a casual pastime to an addictive habit, and then from marathons to ultramarathons. At his craziest, Si Guosong chose to run in the early morning to avoid interfering with his work, running from midnight to 2 a.m., from Humen along Provincial Highway 358 to Chang'an, and then back.



Like other members of the Yibao Dream Team, Si Guosong is a completely amateur athlete.


Between 2013 and 2014, Si Guosong won four domestic first-place titles in Guangzhou and Shenzhen, gaining significant fame in the running community and becoming one of the few domestic amateur runners who could compete with African athletes. His achievements in ultramarathons are no less impressive than in marathons: in the 2016 inaugural Cross-Strait International Ultramarathon, he broke the Chinese 24-hour ultramarathon record held by 'Ultramarathon Professor' Zhao Ziyu with a distance of 246.319 km. This was achieved despite lacking experience in long-distance running support and having to slow down to a walk in the last few hours due to stomach discomfort. Many believe Si Guosong has the potential to challenge the Asian record of 285.366 km held by Japan's Hara Yoshikazu.



Si Guosong is one of the most versatile runners among domestic elites, as well as one of the most humble and least demanding. He wants to run everywhere and try everything, and even after becoming a well-known figure in the running community, he remains humble. 'I don't usually demand high speed, I mostly jog,' Si Guosong says calmly about his journey through mountains and under the stars. In nine years of running, he has participated in over 100 marathons, mountain races, trail races, and ultramarathons, accumulating a total running distance of 64,000 km, enough to circle the equator more than once. A fellow runner recalls meeting him by chance, and Si Guosong said with a smile, 'I'm not that good, probably around a 25 level,' which left the fellow runner astonished.




On the racecourse, he doesn't wear a watch, heart rate monitor, leg bands, sunglasses, or hat, only a neat racing outfit. With his seemingly not very strong physique and humble expression, it's hard for others to associate him with titles like 'marathon god.' He says, 'I just want to run freely anytime, anywhere. Now I sometimes wear a watch.'


Si Guosong's influence has spread from Shenzhen and Humen to the entire country, inspiring many fellow runners to start running. Huang Gaofeng, a local clothing entrepreneur in Humen, said, 'When I got to know Si Guosong, he often won awards in various competitions, which made me admire him greatly, so I decided to practice and give it a try, at least to improve my physical fitness.' Currently, the Humen Town Long-distance Running Association has more than 200 members who regard Si Guosong as an idol, all hoping to achieve peace of mind, enhance physical fitness, and gain honor through running.
